1. Nice article but I think that as of now nVIDIA Corporation has much better products than AMD's ATI graphics group,I'm Saying this because of the terrible delays that ATI's R600 is facing and that in general nVIDIA based products are of much better quality than ATI's :nVIDIA has better driver and consumer support and better graphics technologies overall.
I'm an nVIDIA fan so don't be supprised I'm saying this. as of now nVIDIA is just gonna screw ATI with their secret weapons :8800 Ultra & 8950GX2 GPUs. As for AMD's ATI, I think they should stick to the slogan "The Way It's Meant To Be Late" (TWIMTBL). [Posted by: Erik Larsson | Date: 03/25/07]
Erik, have you already bought a system running two GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB graphics cards along with nForce 680i and Intel Core 2 Quad 6700 processor?

No,But I'm working on it.Just waiting for the 8800Ultra & 8950GX2 to make the final decision.as of the Intel Q6700 processor I'thing I'm gust gonna stick with my E6700 right now and buy the Q6700 processor in Q3 when it would be avalible at a nice 530 USD (I will consider the Q6600 at 266 USD as well,,But that would happen in Q3 when prices on Intel chips will go down..) Judging by the number of bugs that the GF8's drivers still have, I see a clear point for Nvidia to release the product: to sell the hardware and finance development of drivers, but I do not see a reason for anybody to finance Nvidia's software development. Isn't a product supposed to be ready to work at launch?Only 11% of this web-site's poll participants already have the GeForce 8800... Also, the market of discrete is shrinking and the importance to be the first to market becomes much lower than before. [Posted by: Anton | Date: 03/28/07]
2. I honestly think that AMD should shove their entire product line up their @$$ and sell their company(ies) and put an end to this CPU clone garbage. Intel is where the performance is at and theirs more people that use Intel for damn near everything and gets the job done faster than the other company.

Zeke, you are a dumb a$$. If it wasn't for the competion that AMD has given Intel, do you think that you would have a Core 2 Duo chip ?. More likely Intel would be screwing the masses with a "Netburst" based chip. Compettion is good for everyone, and not so long ago the AMD64 was the better chip, and more than likely sometime in the future AMD will have a better placed chip than Intel. Erik I disagree with your post, because while Nvidia has had a DX10 chip out for the last 6-8 months, have you seen a working DX10 driver for it yet ? The x1950XTX could still perform fine in comparision with the 8800GTX in most real life games. DX10 is where the real battle is going to be, and ATI is rumoured to have a WHQ DX10 driver ready to role for the April release of the R600, So in DX10 terms, ATI and Nvidia should be tied when it comes to DX10 parts. What ATI are doing though, is releasing low-end, mid-range, high-end and mobile DX10 parts with a WHQ DX10 driver at the same time !. remeber, Nvidia will be releasing there low-end, mid-range and mobile parts at the same time as ATI, and these account for 80% of there sales !. So I reckon the real battle will only start in April. As for who is gonna win, the answer is the customer, as the compettion is always good for us. [Posted by: liquidH20 | Date: 03/26/07]
You have a nice point indeed!! but do not forget that working DX10 driver right now won't help you much as there are no DX10 games on the market as of yet.The next big thing in pc gaming would be "Crysis","Unreal Tournament 3",and a pc version modified to support DX10 of the most awaited "Gears of War"(that would be far more advanced version of GOW on the X360 because it will have DX10 and better eye candy & level design) Can't wait for that one to come alone!!! Have a nice day everyone!!! [Posted by: Erik Larsson | Date: 03/26/07]
liquidH20 I agree with you but one thing the real battle will start in May here the linkhttp://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37899 mybe it is not competent resource but hey what the hell I like rumors [Posted by: Roast | Date: 03/26/07]
Hi RoastHere is a later article, supposed to be an African launch ? (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38442) in April (supposed to be 23-24). Don't know how good the info is, but have heard it in other places (I work for an OEM company, and I know we are already looking at shipping R600 and R610 products in late April, early May) [Posted by: liquidH20 | Date: 03/28/07]

I'd strongly encourage you to do that, ATi Linux support is terrible. If they opened their drivers, there wouldn't be an issue.

4. What I would like to know is if their policy regarding drivers for non-ms os'es (as Linux) is to change after the merging of AMD and ATI.
I am about to upgrade my dual-boot system (gaming in xp and working in linux), and I am wondering whether to move to Nvidia due to the lack of open source/ efficient 3d drivers in linux. [Posted by: inge | Date: 03/25/07]
5. Not one mention of Linux drivers or open sourceing their drivers. NOT EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD IS WINDOWS.
