12.
I have AMD am2 6000 w/: win64 and kubuntu64 in dual-boot.
I have built at least 100 systems for business and countless system for personal use. Both Intel and AMD (which depends upon customer choice or my input). I prefer Intel.
PRICE/performance ratio (from customers point of view): Find AMD as THE choice overall. Due to less: 'Blue screen of death", higher throughput for everyday activities, better gaming experience, less issues from over-heating (of which I have found to be one of Intel-type CPU issues), AMD driven computers stay up and running for months without reboot (I believe this is a result of better cooling capabilities-from my point-of-view), is a result of better cooling formula, and FROM a gamers perspective: better over-clocking abilities ( I base this on motherboard capabilities). ALTHOUGH I prefer Intel CPUs (BTW: I have both Intel and AMD running all the time) in my lab, I've had to re-boot the Intel machine more often than the AMD machine.
All this info being posted, based on experience: I have begun to look at the alternative to Intel... My findings are not just about less power cunsumption (althoug this is very important to me), it is about useability! It is more about capabilities! It is about Staying ONINE and, up and running for LONG periods of time (without having to Re-boot!). I have found CPUs from AMD have, and do make asformentioned possible!
My Intel system needs a re-boot several times a day. This is due to intensive Word-processing, Internet (copy-paste) functions, while Excel is up, while"Sametime" is running, while 'Outlook' is running, while performing: upgrades, and internet grade 'Leraning courses', while running IE7.
My AMD system runs all the above applications without any re-boots and for months. Oh, this pisses me off! I like Intel! but their CPU cannot cut the mustard.
My current systems:
Intel Core Dual 2 Duo E6600 with 1GB ram (I paid $900 at time of purchase)
AMD AM2 6000x2 with !GB ram (I paid $859 at time of purchase)
Finally, I know which CPU works for me....
BTW: I know: RAM, Motherboard (with video on-board) means. Remember, these are basic systems of which most would buy.
Do not buy that which will give you head-ache.
Buy the system that works: for me! Pick AMD for your next CPU choice.
