K8 is really old... even if it is fully transitioned to 65nm! check the benchmarks around the net... 65nm K8 chips are not even that close to knocking off C2D chips... what AMD should have done years back (probably 2-3yrs back) was that they should have started designing or preparing enhancements to the K8 design (K10 is still technically a derivative of the K8)...
Barcelona's design came in late! It only came at around the time Intel was about to unleash C2D! Now AMD is rushing to fine tune as well as manufacture a product that could have been designed and built early on.
AMD became complacent during the time it had the performance crown.
