Hi,

This article was good overall; loaded with usefull informations. However I wonder: is it mandatory to use windows for overclocking ? Because at the start up all informations about monitoring programs where intended only to windows owners/users. I would be very gratefull to anyone able to indicate me equivalent programs under linux.

Regards

PMA

PS: The confirmation code box for posting comments looks incompatible with konqueror. I tryed a dozen times before resorting to firefox.

There should have been a safety warning (in BOLD red) that overclocking can become very addictive when more is never enough

Nice article - i might add a Warpedsystems overclocking guide:
Buy a good mobo that matches the cpu:
Such as an e6600 with 650, or e6420 with a g33/p35, qx6700 with 680i.
Intel c2d chips go for 1.4-1.47v check with utility or bios.
Buy good memory with low latencies - 4-4-3-10 ddr2 800mhz.
Build mobo on desk top and find the range the system is stable at in bios.
program system with default settings.
update os and install orthos, cpu-z,sandra lite and 3dmark06 (not free but easy to find).
Tune system one part at time - cpu first run orthos cpu stablity - memory next adjust memory voltage and latencies (keep in mind many low latencies ram do not like more the 2.1v). Run orthos combined. Check sandra you should get 7000-7200mhz. Run sdmark06 - ok you just built a killer oc system what will last!i

People here will hate me for saying this, but I just use EasyTune5 that came with my mobo I get a nice 10% with no extra fan noise and no messing around with bios settings, just press the big "increase clocke speed" button and it works

Page 2 says "...so why now learn it right now?"

Should be "so why NOT learn it right now?"

worthless. I follow the procedures exactly. My bios does not have any means to change anything with regard to processor or memory. Anything about that is greyed out, and even then the examples look nothing like what I see in my bios. None of the links to the bios configurators work.

I'm using Intel’s 945 series chipsets (P5L-MX).. and a processor Intel Core 2 Duo 1.80Ghz 800Mhz FSB.. CAN I conduct a BSEL mod w/o affecting the performance and safety of my hardwares?

Back in the day I overclocked my 486sx 20MHz by unsoldering the crystal from the motherboard and soldering in a 32Mhz one...... does that make me hard core? ;o)
