The loss of the Tualatin to market pressure was the reason that AMD gained supremacy in the CPU wars for a few years. If Intel had stuck with the Tualatin, let AMD have the "fastest" CPU for a while, they would have done a lot better. The latest core duo CPUs owe most of their heritage to the Tualatin. The P4 is a dinosaur. A temporary fix, more for marketing purposes than evolution of the CPU.
