I Believe Sony is feeling not only the heat of the consumers but the Heat of the Game developers breating down their neck.
The software developers have the most to lose with PS3 if it fails especially with the Exlusive developers loyal to PS3.

And as everybody knows. It is Software that sels the Consoles.
