1. what the hell, amd?

we had faith in you and all you give back is a CPU that's been available for a year, with the words "black edition" behind it and in a different box.

phenom better come in numbers(both quantity and clockspeed) sometime this year.

dont forget performance

2. :) They cannot get the clock speed on their 65 nm process any higher that 2.6 GHz and maintain thier warrantee reliability criteria, so they let you break it then won't replace it.... clever.

3. They really want that PR.
But they also save money cause theres no cooler -.-

5. another crap from AMD...

its really fun to anticipate any kind of blunder from AMD these days...

6. For all of you saying its just the same chip in a different box, you did read the part about the unlocked multiplier right???? And if you don't understand why that is important, what are you doing on this type of site. My only beef is that they didn't use the 5200+ with the 2M of cache.

none of the 65nm AMD's have 2M cache

7. those black edition CPU's are selected an tested by Amd engineers thats why they get the name Black editions label, those ones are with unlocked multiplier and better waffers yields.

8. I'm running an E6750@ 3.5ghz and I will still grab one of these when
they come out, because I've always wanted a cpu with an unlocked
multiplier. Also remember Intel is "engineering" a lot of the features
AMD chips had for years into Nehalem.

9. amd is getting more and more desperate that its just sad to watch.
why haven't they tried two athlons x2's on one package and call 'em budget quadcores?
it's about the only thing left to do until they can actually get some clocks out of those phenoms.

Cool idea-a quad for around $150 would be great for us budget enthusiasts.
