1. A fine roundup, but I miss BenQ LCD's especially the FP241VW which I would like to buy. I also would like to know, whether it's worth waiting for 24" with LED backlight or buy a normal one now.
[Posted by: GL1zdA | Date: 10/23/07]
Usually, there is no need in LED backlight -- normal CCFLs (or Wide Gamut CCFL, like Samsung 245T or Dell 2407WFP-HC) is enough. Furthemore, 20" with LED backlight costs about $1500 and 24"/LED surely will be much more exepnsive.

2. Finally 24'', I was waiting like hell for this review !!
thanks god, both Dell and Samsung ones are here ( as I'm confused between them ), but I wish to find more as it may give a better option !! mmm, wondering when the LED ones will be available ? I hope in 2008 with DisplayPort as I'm not in a hurry :D [Posted by: Xajel | Date: 10/24/07]
3. Hello! im in the market for a 24" and was happy to see this roundup but got diapointed when i say you do not include mesurements of input lag. Input lag is critical when gaming on a lcd monitor and can vary considerably from model to model. Please either update the test with input lag included or at the very least inclue in your monitor tests from now on
[Posted by: ErikuKun(Swe) | Date: 10/24/07]
if useing DVI there should be less input lag then VGA if any at all any way sure you not talking about Screen delay that is like 10ms e.g.
[Posted by: lee | Date: 10/25/07]
No, what i mean is input lag as described here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_lag Input lag can vary greatly depending on panel type and quality of components and definately something that affects the user in games (for example FPSs) [Posted by: ErikuKun(Swe) | Date: 10/26/07]
Input lag is a big deal for fast paced shooters and any other high accuracy stuff. I care more about input lag on LCD reviews than anything else.

4. Nice review as usual
so the best monitor you tested was the Samsung SyncMaster 245T??? not price/performance,but just the best one [Posted by: Veteran | Date: 10/24/07]
I can't say that 245T is absolutely the best, but it's a very good monitor. If you want the best one -- look at NEC 2490WUXi or EIZOs... [Posted by: Oleg Artamonov | Date: 10/27/07]
5. Too bad the Dell 2407WFP Rev 04 was tested, as this model has been discontinued and unavailable for months. It has been replaced by the wide-gamut 2407WFP-HC which is plagued by more obvious RTC artifacts problems, not unlike the Samsung 245T (both use a Samsung high-gamut S-PVA panel)

6. Hi.
I'm ahappy owner of a Samsung Syncmaster 244T. On test-pages 14 & 15 you are talking about the 244 (I think) but you're showing images of 245. A bit confusing, don't you think?! regards Paz [Posted by: Pazcal | Date: 10/24/07]
7. Oy, where are Sceptre's 24" models, the X24G's? Those suckers boast some high specs (2ms response, 4000:1 ratio, etc.) and I would've liked to have known if they live up to them.
[Posted by: lainofthewired | Date: 10/24/07]
8. They should really test the Dell 2407WFP-HC
[Posted by: anon | Date: 10/24/07]
9. Should have reviewed the Westinghouse L2410NM. It has an hdmi input and thus can be used with game consoles/hddvd.
It sells for $379.99 on newegg [Posted by: 31415 | Date: 10/24/07]
10. Hi,Oleg, in this article, you tryed different ways to acheive 100nit white, that is, set brightness and contrast both to to a middle level as you alway did in your test, or, set brightness rather low and maintain contrast at a higher level. And latter approach yields higher contrast ratio.(Samsung 245T test)
So, i'm wondering if the latter way of acheiving 100nit white should be the RIGHT way of doing so? As you previously mentioned, lower the contrast ratio does not affect the black level of the monitor but reduce the white level and so reduce the overall dynamic range of the monitor which in turn has bad influence on response time. So i think when adjusting the monitor to a certain white level, you should always keep the contrast setting as high as they can be, which is the highest number when the monitor does not lose details in bright zones as well as the gamma and temperature does not change radically, and solely reduce the brightness number to get a desired white. And if the brightness control can't give you the desired white level, eg. when set to 0 the brightness is still too high, then adjust contrast setting as well. And this way should apply to those use backlight to adjust monitors' brightness only. Cheers. [Posted by: DanielSun | Date: 10/24/07]
"So i think when adjusting the monitor to a certain white level, you should always keep the contrast setting as high as they can be, which is the highest number when the monitor does not lose details in bright zones as well as the gamma and temperature does not change radically"Yes, of course. But we _advisedly_ adjust monitors in a such way to check how it will perform with lower contrast settings. [Posted by: Oleg Artamonov | Date: 10/27/07]
But you also measure the contrast value in this way, isn't that somewhat lose its meaning since the number is not always the highest the monitor can be?

11. Not sure you had a good LG monitor. Mine is great with out any issues as you spoke of.
[Posted by: Larry | Date: 10/24/07]
May be they fix it in some newer firmware versions like they did with L226WTQ (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/22inch_9.html)?..

12. I don't know why 2407-hc continue to be skipped in all reviews, after being a replacement for more than half an year. I own one and it is practically imposible to buy non-HC version lately. I experience severe black ghosting with my screen and I suppose that is the reason for non existent reviews of that model. Nobody wants to say the truth, exept TFTCentral. On Dell community support forums there is 100 pages discussion concerning the deffect, and you here put an almost year old model in this roundup instead of the HC model. Very strange indeed.
[Posted by: vitamincpp | Date: 10/24/07]
We don't get 2407WFP-HC yet -- it's still rare outside the USA.
[Posted by: Oleg Artamonov | Date: 10/27/07]
Not really.Any country with Dell company will have ONLY the HC model. That's for sure. [Posted by: mw1001 | Date: 10/27/07]
13. Hi, GREAT review as used to be khm, but please please PLEASE include a Fujitsu Siemens P24-1W display as an uodate to this great article. It has a price around Samsung's but used to have superior quality. I would be pleased to see such a detailed review of it as the rest have.
Thanks, juke [Posted by: Jukebox | Date: 10/25/07]
14. ''Not sure you had a good LG monitor. Mine is great with out any issues as you spoke of.''
Same here and in other tests the monitor is a absolut winner! [Posted by: Ferry | Date: 10/26/07]
15. 17 & 19 rounds end up more than oe part, I'm expecting the same for this 24 one...
I hope we find the ones all these commenters noted here and may I add Samsung SyncMaster 245BW too ? this one is a cheap one from Samsung too I hope the next part will eye test the quality of composite & component video input, no need for advanced testing, just compare it with normal TV's by naked eye... so we will know if we can use it as TV panel replacement for small rooms where space is precious [Posted by: Xajel | Date: 10/26/07]
Samsung 245BW is identical with 245B: usually, "W" stands for "Wide screen", but 245B is wide screen monitor.
[Posted by: Oleg Artamonov | Date: 10/27/07]
that's exaclty why I asked for it, there's no defferent between them, I saw that W stands for WideScreen in DELL, but here, I don't know and I don't know wich one is better as 245BW costs less than $500 ( you may find it for 450 too )
[Posted by: Xajel | Date: 10/27/07]
16. Why test a monitor out off production for months, like 2407WFP A04.
It should really test the Dell 2407WFP-HC A00, the only 24" PVA model from Dell in the moment, and has a lot of GHOSTING problems! If they test the Dell's HC model, LG Flatron L245WP will get company in the losers hall. [Posted by: mw1001 | Date: 10/27/07]
17. you missed one of the best 24" monitors out there - the NEC270WNX. i returned the Dell 2407-HC model for the NEC and happy i did.
[Posted by: nelson | Date: 10/28/07]
NEC 2470WNX will be in our next review.I can't say that 2470WNX is somewhat better than Dell 2407 or Samsung 245T [Posted by: Oleg Artamonov | Date: 10/30/07]
18. Sorry to not agree with you, but the nec 2470wnx which I suppose you mean is the same panel as the Dell and exhibits the same d'effects. If you don't see them go test your eyes :)

19. I'm looking for a monitor with the 1:1 pixel function to
watch HD-DVD without vertical distorsion (from 16/9 to 16/10). Is one of these monitor capable of doing this? [Posted by: DanyAdd | Date: 10/29/07]
Does the 1:1 function work also on the DVI - HDCP input ?
[Posted by: DanyAdd | Date: 10/30/07]
20. How is it you didn't test Gateway's entry? Granted it hasn't been updated for at least one product cycle, but just about every review I read for it when it came out was very positive.
