I would like to see some store actually selling th 40GB version. So far all the websites only list the 60GB for 450$.
Easy to advertise that you sell a 400$ console when you never actually have to release one.

maybe because they didn't actually release it yet in the US?

If there was a PS3 for $400 with full backwards compatibility then I might buy one. Even with Rachet and Clank the PS3 is just a Blu Ray player that happens to play games, not a game machine that happens to play Blu Ray. Walmart is going to have a Sale on HD-DVD players tomarrow so combine that with a Wii or 360 Arcade and you still come in under $400. What can I say, I like HDDVD over Blu-Ray and I like the games for the 360 over the PS3. Sonys partners are probably pissed though since none of there machines have an MSRP under $400. Even online retailers have Blu Ray players over $340 for a new one and $320 for a refurbished one.

Backwards compatibility isn't really a problem with me, my ps2 isnt going anywhere, and if gamers that still want to play ps2 games and have the 40 GB version, theres enough used ones being sold, (atleast in my area)
Not only is the PS3 a blueray player but I use mine as a media hub, and a PC running linux. I like machines that can do more and PS3 is the one that does the most.
I give the open source crowd another year and the PS3 might get as much homebrew support as the PSP.

Last year it was the system that was too expensive with no games, and now this is the latest X360 fanboy argument today? Sheesh, you guys are getting less convincing as time goes on and more desperate in fearing Sony's success.

I plan to buy one of these new 40 GB PS3's for my brother as a Christimas gift.

Nice to see Sony got a 65nm CPU out before Microsoft, especially considering the Xbox has been on the market a year longer. Just shows you with the red-ring of death, and MS action of doing nothing about it, that they don't care about their customers. Maybe they should extend the warranty to 10 years, since Xbox fans love sending their console in for repair.
