I always liked AMD, but now it doesn't matter what they do. After acquiring ATI, they are obviously doomed. Hector Ruiz is a complete idiot. I guess he will learn the hard way.

At his point in time, I don't think AMD has that many choices left to try to save its company from incurring further losses. Somehow or in some way, it's management staff has to find a way to "stop the bleeding" before it's too late. I'm quite sure that if this rumour holds out to be true and comes into fruition, AMD's top-brass would have thought about the pros and cons of such a business decision/move.

For the sake of continued competition...competition that helps bring down prices of current microprocessors and made it possible for us to own dual-cores and/or quad-cores at an affordable/reasonable price...I do wish AMD the best of luck and hope it can survive through hard times.

How about selling Hector? How much money they could make from that?

AMD has a fundamental problem wrt to selling fabs: they're not allowed to outsource more than 20% production of x86 chips (as per their x86 licencing agreement with Intel). If they can't manufacture x86 chips profitably in-house, then the only other option is to exit the x86 market completely. Any fab sales by AMD would almost certainly be followed shortly after by AMD leaving the x86 CPU market.
