At his point in time, I don't think AMD has that many choices left to try to save its company from incurring further losses. Somehow or in some way, it's management staff has to find a way to "stop the bleeding" before it's too late. I'm quite sure that if this rumour holds out to be true and comes into fruition, AMD's top-brass would have thought about the pros and cons of such a business decision/move.
For the sake of continued competition...competition that helps bring down prices of current microprocessors and made it possible for us to own dual-cores and/or quad-cores at an affordable/reasonable price...I do wish AMD the best of luck and hope it can survive through hard times.
