1. The first two AMD Phenoms are a huge disappointment. Earlier, I decided to give AMD the benefit of the doubt and not pre judge their new line of CPU's as many people did. My current system which is an Athlon XP 2200 is getting old and I decided to await what the new AMD CPU's will hold. I would like to have an 8-core system, meaning I will have to wait till the Phenom FX comes out.

With the poor start for the new AMD K-10 desktop CPU's, AMD really needs to start sorting out their act, improve on the Phenom and stop monkeying around with promises, I will await the results for the Phenom FX (Socket F) next year, if they disappoint, I will reluctantly jump ship to Intel - I do however hold reservations about the reliability and heating of the new Penryn CPU's, and I am not sure if Intel has yet sorted out the problem with the MMU yet (I haven't been keeping up with the latest CPU news much I'm afraid so I am non the wiser about the bugs in the Intel CPU's), don't get me wrong, I am not questioning the performance of the Core 2

A note to AMD is not to start messing around with brand names and this "spider" platform, just go and work on the Phenom FX at 3.00GHz and beyond - work out why the Core 2 is beating the Phenom (I doubt it is just related to core speed), see what can be done and hopefully the Phenom will be competitive VS enthusiast class Penryn, if not wipe the floor with it, plus try not to sell the Phenom at £650, I am sure if the high end Phenoms are around £350-400 mark, they would sell more than the Penryn. I wish AMD the best, they'll need it!

2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahah.. ah

I hope the 6 people who buy this enjoy it. Seriously, you can get a Q6600 which is faster than the 2.3GHz phenom by yards, plus SLI 8800GT and you've got yourself a system thats more efficient and faster than AMDs fancy spider platform.

And don't forget, Skulltrail is just going to squash this little spider and cook it for appetizer.

3. phenom is gay, hd3000 is the star of the show. hd3850 crossfire>8800gt, and you can do that on a P35 or X38

4. The Radeon HD 3000 series graphics cards are a definite plus of the platform (specially the 3850), so is the fact that you can install the Phenom on current AM2 boards too... but the new CPUs are a bit too pricey, considering their performances. Spider is definitely a good mainstream platform but I can't help but feel that this is not the real launch of the Phenom, it's just dust in the eyes, AMD obviously need more time to work on this thing. I still think the new generation of AMD processors have some potential though. The problem is that we'll need to wait until they go 45nm to truly see it. 65nm and AMD just didin't work out.

5. Phenom is CRAP. Period.

AMD can't get anything right these days...

really, why do people lose faith so fast.

people switch from intel to amd and back in seconds

i remember when athlon64 was launched, and everyone loved to poke fun at intel. so pathetic,

Remember when the Pentium D (EE) was launched, 3.4ghz with Hyperthreading?

I snapped that one up, poped it into a brand new workstation and was demolishing benchmarks, oh, then I used to to work and made a few grand.

Aheam.... AMD->AMD->Intel->Intel/VIA

K6-2+, Athlon XP 2000, Pentium D(EE), Core 2 Quad/C7-M

thats called train switching

6. I really wish I would not be saying this but I have given up on AMD. After seeing benchmarks from multiple sites I went and bought an Intel Core 2 Quad-core computer. The fact that Phenom is not equal mhz to mhz with the first generation of Core 2 is very poor.

Perhaps Inel's Core 2 is really hard to compete with and/or perhaps AMD just has bad management. I hope that AMD is able to make some sort of money on their new processors and can continue to provide some sort of competition for intel to keep it's prices reasonable. Performance is the most important thing for me and AMD has totally let me down.

7. Now is not a great time for AMD to release a platform; they have serious problems with their 65nm quad-core CPUs, the GPUs compete more on price than performance and the initial word on the motherboards with the new chipset is Teething.
It’s as if they have released the opposite of what a platform should be, like the episode of Seinfeld where George decides to do the opposite of what his instinct says and is successful. Note to AMD execs – less Seinfeld and blunts and more MBA stuff.

I still like the 55nm GPUs as they have good enough performance with great idle power consumption which is a big deal for me and Mr G (Al to some).
