21. A thorough and well written article, as always, but it came too late. You keep mentioning that there are few of these cards around, and it's only because they are no longer needed - they have been replaced by 3870s which are faster (even than the previous flagship 2900XT), cost less and have UVD.

He is always full of crap,i just wonder what he is going to say now...
they even banned me from the forums because i said the reviews (for graphic cards) were bad.....
I just wonder how he is going to talk himself out of this one :)

23. A quick note on the overclocking would have been great, we have these cards running at 800mhz+ core, and 1ghz for mem, with NO voltage modification. At these speeds it clearly outperforms a STOCK 8800GT and requires no addition cooling (aside from tuned fan settings in ATI Tool)

25. I found the review very useful. Very good detail. Got a real cheap 2900pro after weighing the pros and cons..... Too bad a lot of pompous early adopters who apparantly only get the newest, latest, etc, don't appreciate the work.

No DOUBT!!

What a bunch of a-holes, griping about a very thorough and well done review. It was a little too technical for me at times and their settings seemed a little arbitrary at times, but it was the best review of this specific card I am probably purchasing.

One thing is the pricing is way off. Weird how things can change in six weeks. The 2900 Pro is available for 159 on one site (out of stock - sold out in six hours when stock came in) and 165 including shipping on the site I reserved my copy from today. Meanwhile, the 3870's are running maybe 270? 3850's are over 200 it seems and maybe a little cheaper for a 256 MB version.

Plus, this has VIVO, which was not really emphasized but is cool for me. Plus, running at 1280 x 1024 it seem to be able to basically run anything you want, and my 19" LCD has that as its max resolution.

So thanks XBIT for this FREE high quality review that helps me feel much better about my purchase. Based on current pricing and current product availability (I bought today) this is a VERY RELEVANT article and it is much appreciated. Kudos!

26. the 2900 pro is a great card with the antec 900 the heat issues are mute, This card runs everything I throw at it with very acceptable frames. I have beeen running it 24/7 for 10 mo now. riva tuner is not needed for the fan with the antec 900 or my other cheap atx case. runs @ 51c don't notice noise with fan at 3d issues? oh well Love the card and got it @ 188.00 go sapphire......looking foward to the 4870x2 have new pics of upcomming unit go ATI............
