phenom is an underperformer as it is already evident, however AMD giving cheap multiplier unlocked chips is a really good idea.

Too little, too late.... I'll save my $315 for a Q9450 Penryn in January that will overclock over 4ghz on air, without needing to buy some ridiculous black edition of the same chip =D

Hmm looks like the price will be expansive and another delay it just same habit that AMD show to us.
Better wait for Penryn vs Black Edition then make decision which one supposed to buy with resonable price around $290 - $320

AMD needs to pull an Athlon XP (rather, pull an anything before the AXP) and unlock the multiplier on **all** their CPUs. Make this CPU accessible to the noob-overclocker.

Realistically, its WAY too easy to overclock anything now. But AMD can make it easier for those who are just getting started.

It was my understanding that Phenonoms cant even hit reliable >2.5 at the factory. How is an unlocked multi gona help something that cant even overclock as is?

these batches of Phenom are pathetic! of course, those FX will be delayed.. they're bugged! they couldn't ramp up production! they couldn't ramp up the clock speed! since they couldn't ramp up speed, how can you be sure that an overclocked Phenom will be stable enough ?!

Whats the point when they perform poorly, suck a lot of power, run hot, and don't overclock worth a damn?
Get a 45nm penryn quad, overclock it to 4.0GHz using some good air cooling, and you've got yourself a beast that'll last you for years to come. nitwits

That roadmap shows that there will not be even 2.8GHz Phenom parts before Q2 2008 :(

As far as Phenom is sucking so hard, it would have been a better idea to put 2 Athlon64 X2 on the same die, just like Intel did one year ago...

Slap 2 Phenoms together and you an 8 corer,do what Intel did, but on the bigger scale,
as for AMD going out , they were doing it for the last 30 years ,he he
I care more about AMD getting the Quadfire drivers out without too many bugs. Which Intel chipset/board supports 4 PCIe cards? not many (if any), why you thing amd is pushing the hole spider thing, don't think it's a sudden love for insects. They won't have a better CPU
(anytime soon anyway) but they will have a better gaming platform.
