i was actually pissed by that ANTI AMD guy that i forgot to comment on the original story.

Well i am glad they canceled this. I was thinking AMD is winning back some ground through their ... semi-reasonable product extension.

Like the spider platform with the possibility to carry 8-GPUs .. if this adds up with a dual processor platform, it will be winning benchmarks i guess, but will be losing practicality.

Canceling this gave another meaning to AMD's strategy, they are still willing to fight head to head with Intel's products as winning through dual processors is just ... stupid .. plain and simple.

I am truly disappointed with AMD cancelling their 8-core DP system, I am really considering jumping boat to Intel for the first time since my dads old 386 system. Intel should really slash the prices on their V8 system - yes AMD can concentrate on their Spider system but it comes at the cost of loosing the support of enthusiasts.

I held high hopes for AMD, to turn out for nothing, I doubt AMD now will not have a good processor to rival Intel until the AMD Fusion, and even then, Fusion may have complexity problems.

Goodbye AMD, it was nice for the past 10 years being with your CPU's. AMD made their bed so they better lie in it, they shouldn't have been idle when the Core2 became a threat!

I wish AMD the best and maybe one day I may come back to them - time will tell

HAHAHAHAHA... I agree, they are better off discontinuing all of their products.
AMD feels like Britney Spears nowadays. One bad news after another, a train wreck.

The FX 70 series are basically re-branded Opterons to begin with. It would be in AMD's best interest to have an 8 core platform and pair it with ati chipset and Crossfire X. Even though they could not charge as much as Intel due to the low clock speeds of even the Opterons, they could sell the motherboards and CPU's together to customers like Falcon and Dell, and then offer the quad Graphics card setup as well. The margins could be high on such a setup and it sounds more attractive to enthusiasts if it has dual Quad FX CPUs instead of just saying it has two Opteron CPUs. Of course even though that sounds like a good idea AMD has finally realized they are bleeding money and that they need to minimize some of their risks until they stabilize their financial situation, if that ever happens anyway.

Another classic screwing of the public to buy some over priced "exclusive" platform. I'll just keep my Core 2 notebook and XBox, thanks.

This may make you think that AMD wont do anymore of the superhyped bullshit claims filled wih PR decorated vague overwhelming predictions brought forward as facts about how their DIDLYDONS8 platform is going to revolutionize the enthusiasts' world and knock their socks off into the moon at the same time.

Because you know how now you see their QuadFather platform or what they decided to call it later FASN8 (oh my god ! what a lame name) is down te drain

Right? ..... Wrong they are doing it again with Spider platform.

But to be honst both these craptastic platforms have their good usage and that is filling the media outlets (those with no specialty in any special field like MSN) with promotional videos to win mindshares and to make themselves look like they are on the leading edge to fool their current shareholders happy and try to keep them and possibly trick some uninformed blokes to buy their shares

Its just there to act as a temp shot in the arm whenever they think they need one and thats when they feel the are left behind the competition pretty badly, shouldnt really take them seriously even if they come up with anothe one named BBQFN8$WTF8.

These are just mouthfiller PR grout platfoms.
