ATI stands for AssTastic Ideas. Their 3870 is junk, it performs like a frigin GTS 320MB, nothing more than a die shrink. I'm looking forward to Nvidias next generation of cards, and hope they keep their number one spot forever and ever.

For you guys so frustrated about ati's performance recently, welcome to the club.

Though i find it "late" more than "sucks", like the 2900pro was a very good choice before the release of the 8800GT 512MB & the HD 3870, also the 2600XT wasn't that bad for HTPCs or the x1950 pro 256MB still doing OK within the 120$-140$ price range. Taking into consideration price/performance ratio, ati didn't suck .. it was just .. too late or targeting a market that isn't there. (Like the 2600 series for HTPCs) >> i keep recommending this for HTPCs till this moment, simply put, best performer for under 150$.

8800GT should be anyone's choice who doesn't care much about 30$-50$ dollars price difference, but the fact remains that the HD 3870 for lower resolutions than 1680x1050 for 30$-50$ less than Nvidia's 8800GT with less noise production, remains a decent choice.

I definitely will not buy last gen architecture.

If it's a 9th generation chip, why would it have 8th generation architecture?

ATi is in a heap of trouble so it doesn't suprise me on their end but Nvidia is the king and shouldn't dethrown itself.

Im still enjoying my 8800/640MB btw. Too bad Crysis beats the crap out of it.

Ive heard on other websites that the new 9 series chips are not going to be released until March. Is this true or is it just a guess also around how much would a 9 series chip cost when they are first released?
