MS is only interested in small, affordable solutions like the OLPC, EeePC, etc because Linux is on there. If they let Linux grow, they're in the shit.
Being 95%+ dominate does NOT mean 100% control of the IT world. Its the other 5% or so that really worries them. Linux (alongside other solutions) just happens to be withing that 5% bracket.
They have no interest in helping children with basic computing skills. Microsoft's only interest is to infect and get people addicted to Windows. (very useful when you can get them while they're young). Like a drug dealer, the first hit is always free OR at very low cost. Once you're hooked and are fully dependent on them, they'll jack up the price whenever they please.
