81. hey is there a shortage of wofldale E8xxx? Cuz i'm getting a new pc and when i went to the shop they said the E8500 wasn't out yet but they had the E8400 and the E8200 for some reason.

82. Very nice review. You can see the benefits of the new processors quite well.

83. Why did you use slower RAM on the AMD?

Has me wondering if that is fair test?

84. Someone needs to have a word with Intel over the power saving speed step. 6 x 333 is the same as my E4400 full power!

85. I was pure AMD fan till i release c2d power e8200 is my 45nm top favorite cpu

87. Well Done Guys ,,, Nice Job TY So Much !!! Your Study Really Helped Me To Decide Wich Processor To Go For
I Got The Xeon E3110 Wich I Believe Is The Same Thing As The E8400 .

88. boy, is AMD in some serious trouble.. the should start selling their Phenom CPU's for $100 even.

89. hi, could you pls do more experiments measuring the per platform power usage?, coz we all know that the memory controller of the Amd Processors is intergrated whereas the Intel must rely on Northbridge thereby adding to the power consumptions. Also pls do measure the actual temps and power consumptions while in overclocking mode. Thanks a lot and more power to you and your team.

91. "Actually, our tests showed that Wolfdale responds very good to Vcore increase. But we didn’t aim for record-breaking speeds, so we only increased the processor Vcore in the BIOS Setup to 1.5V that resulted into the actual 1.42-1.46V taking into account Vdroop. This voltage increase is relatively harmless for a processor using an efficient air cooler and is acceptable for systems running 24/7."

Not according to many people in the forums who have found that over times these 45nm chips are less able to tolerate increased voltages. The most accepted maximum safe vCore I hear of is1.365v on the core for E8400s. There are cases where once stable OCs using 1.4-1.45 vCore became unstable, and ultimately resulted in the chips failing to overclock much at all.

Just some food for thought.

92. I am now comfuse and i donot know which one is which anymore about power consumption.
In wolfdale 8500 review page 11 the power consumption is very low compare to review in yorkvield from the same processor. so tell me please about this review.

96. is the E8400 better than the Q6600??

97. Thanks for this review.

I was seriously torn between the E8500 and E8400. I'm upgrading from the good ole E6750.

After this I'm definitely going for the E8400, and am gonna save a lot of money. For the sake of 1.6 ghz, it's worth it.

Cheers guys.

98. Ok, i see that all the speeds are different on the processors, but why with the different ram speeds. you have all the intel processors on ddr-1066 and the amd on ddr-800.... of course the intel will outperform in this environment. Try to do the test with the same ram speeds as well. I understand getting the same specs on the motherboard is harder, but you oughta at least do that much right. That alone makes this test totally invalid as a benchmark to compare processors.

99. i don't believe those supposedly energy efficient wattage result specs one bit theyre embellished , 1st not one of these processors have M0 stepping
ive even seen the E4300 rated at 20 watts idle on 3 sites and rated at 13 watts on toms hardware , reviews are embellished bull.
