1. Great reviews for great New Year!!!Well Done
[Posted by: Marvic | Date: 01/07/08]

2. Wow...I kept thinking that wolfdale would give us a 5-25% normal incresement, with 50-100% in SSE3/SSE4, but damn.....

AMD, I may have been a loyal fan, long long ago (K6-2..+) but ever since I moved from my 500mhz to a E6400 and then to a Q6600, and now, it looks like ill be waiting a year and moving up to the budget quad of 45nm, sorry AMD, but I gota admit this, your screwed.

3. i'm sorry but something looks funky about those power consumptions numbers. Enough so that they are misleading!
[Posted by: Bill Gates | Date: 01/07/08]
the memory controller inside AMD CPU makes most of the difference
[Posted by: AdyMakke | Date: 02/16/08]

4. yaaahhh!!!! these should give a solid blow on AMD's balls!!!

these chips are good!
[Posted by: anti-"AMD fanboy" | Date: 01/07/08]
You again? OMG ROFL, get a life man!
[Posted by: STB | Date: 01/07/08]
As controversial as his name may be, he is not far from the truth.
[Posted by: Mr. BonBon | Date: 01/07/08]
Not far from the truth, but AMD receiving a blow to the balls would never make me happy, even though their fanboys often make my brow twitch with their ridiculous arguments.

We need another strong player in this market to keep prices down and push both of them forward! And anyone who's rational enough would agree to this.

@anti-"AMD fanboy" - if I were you I'd actually call 911 for AMD's help. With every news bit about another Intel success and AMD bugs and delays it looks like AMD already have one leg in the grave. Do your really want an officially monopolistic Intel???? Are you ready to return to the days of paying $800 for a mid range CPU???
[Posted by: eltoro | Date: 01/07/08]
then go get a job if you can't buy a decent processor!

monopolistic crap?!?

AMD might as well be the next VIA! Intel is just gunning for a reduction in AMD's market share... helping AMD as a consumer?!? that is crap! they dug their own mudhole to begin with...

even Intel's mobile chips are impressive...

[Posted by: anti-"AMD fanboy" | Date: 01/07/08]
What's that s**t about getting a job??? what's that has to do with it?
How many people would tell you that they wouldn't mind paying $800 for a CPU when they could pay $250 instead???

Are you looking for ways to burn money? Has your bank manager called you to ask that you take some of your money back cause it's cracking the safe' walls?

How mind numb can you be for thinking that my unwillingness to burn extra money on a CPU means that I don't have the capability of doing so? I know people who make 3 times more than I do who won't be willing to spend that much on a CPU.

I'm not saying to support them as a consumer, as you've learned I care a lot of what I'm doing with my money, so I won't buy crappy components. But I'm also far from being glad at their fall like you...
[Posted by: eltoro | Date: 01/08/08]
If everybody starts to buy only INTEL and AMD is going down, then we won'r have cometition on the market ! and you know what this means ? higher prices from INTEL ! as long as there is competition you will pay a decent price for what you get! don't forget that intel MB are more expensive that MB's for AMD.
[Posted by: AdyMakke | Date: 02/16/08]
@STB - dude! its a priceless thing to see AMD fanboys squirm from every benchmark that indicates AMD has a pathetic product!

its fun!!
[Posted by: anti-"AMD fanboy" | Date: 01/07/08]
Eh, they squirm alright, but you'll squirm also when you'll have to pay half of your monthly wage just to get "your" preciousss CPU, that Intell will gladly shove down your throat at an incredible price that will make you feel so much more accomplished as a man - you are an accomplished man that will gladly pay a ridiculously large amount of money for a CPU, that will make him feel like owning a Rolls Royce? cause that is what is all about; I'll be laughing my ass off when Intel will be again absolute top dog, and all those clapping mindlessly for them will be reduced to Celly buyers; happy shopping spree, this year was the C2D year, next one may be a Celly year - "from an incredible 399.99US $" - this is a very possible scenario; but I don't give a frack; the market needs competition to drive the technology forward and the prices down, so the sooner AMD starts getting back on their feet, the better; IMO
[Posted by: STB | Date: 01/07/08]
STB, don't bother. anti-"AMD fanboy" is too busy keeping it real... real dumb that is. Complex opinions just ricochet off him.
[Posted by: Mr. TamPon | Date: 01/07/08]
really?!? you're post is even dumber than the one he made...

you call a one liner hot air a brilliant post?!?

[Posted by: BLEEP | Date: 01/07/08]
OMG ROFL
Exactly my thoughts!!!
[Posted by: eltoro | Date: 01/08/08]
your conclusions are still insignificant! If AMD were topdog now, you'll also see ridiculously priced chips!! remember those $1000+ FX chips?!? what do you get out of them?? they're just standard chips with unlocked multipliers!

whoever has the better chip can control the pricing of their top-end lineup... as well as the bragging rights!

AMD has a share of the low-end spectrum of the market (a market with the smallest margin of profit)... they put this upon themselves! Do they have a performing chip that can compete even in the mid-range/mainstream lineup?!? the answer is NO/NONE!!!!

I suggest you start knocking heads with AMD and wake them up cause Intel isn't seating around! You call this competetion?!? AMD isn't competing.. they're just screwing around!

This shows the prices as of october 2005, a 4800+ priced in at $880.00

Seriously.
Yuu really enjoy this don't you?
[Posted by: huh | Date: 01/15/08]
it is fun to see AMD fanboys cry about theoretical monopolism crap... and its also fun to see how idiotic consumers continue to support a mediocre product just to keep a mismanaged company afloat...

[Posted by: Basher | Date: 01/22/08]

5. Intel makes a processor that gives us 150% performance of best AMD dual core and only 1/3 of its power consumption. Guess which company I'll spend my money on...
[Posted by: Valerie | Date: 01/07/08]
AMD
[Posted by: Mr. BonBon | Date: 01/07/08]
The correct answer was "VIA."
[Posted by: Joz | Date: 01/07/08]
Transmeta?
[Posted by: 31415 | Date: 01/07/08]
Transmeta was brought by someone...dont remember who...

But VIA still pwns intel, amd and "transmetea" in performance/watt.
[Posted by: Joz | Date: 01/07/08]
you won't have any money left because you spent it all on gay pr0n? ;)
[Posted by: SK | Date: 01/08/08]
Wrong. Texas Instrument with the photo-electric power strip beats them all.

I have this abacus here, 0 watts!
Yeah eat it guys.. I win.

6. AWESOME! This is why I still visit X-BIT LABS! For all the stuff they are late on reviewing (3870HD lol), every now and then they are the first in something big.
The processors performed as I expected, and will gladly buy a E8400 the moment it is available =) The only bad thing about this article, is they didn't overclock the E8400, but we know it must be good with it's 9x multi.

I too have been an AMD buyer my entire time on PC's (I am using a 3200xp AMD right now), but I will gladly make the switch for this kind of incredible power and low cost. I can't wait to run a E8400 at 4+GHZ!!! w00t!

What about Penryn Quads? The Q9450?----
Quad cores and games are not ready yet, and won't be for some time (alan wake is a joke, and crysis runs the same on quad or duel)... These wolfdales are bound to be king this year, as now we just need better GPU cards.
Quads are better for certain users, so yes if you like to encode or run multiple apps you best wait... For pure gamers like me, or people on a budget, buy, overclock, and love your wolf, you can't go wrong with it!

Thank you Intel, and thank you X-bit labs! =-D
[Posted by: gamebro | Date: 01/07/08]

7. Another great review x-bit! I'm really surprised of the low prices they're selling these babies. I'm definitely upgrading this year and the Core 2 Duo E8200 is perfect. Maybe I'll even overclock the thing since it has a lot of headroom.
[Posted by: fastpunk | Date: 01/07/08]

8. Lol... boring
[Posted by: AMD FANBOY | Date: 01/07/08]
Yeah, it would be pretty boring for an 'AMD FANBOY'. What fun is there in seeing the X2 6400+ lose every single benchmark, whilst consuming 3x the power of a Wolfdale? LOL
[Posted by: Fanboys suck | Date: 01/07/08]
AMD fanboys should start writing a eulogy for AMD!
[Posted by: I love bashing AMD Fanboys | Date: 01/07/08]
ROFL
[Posted by: Dukken | Date: 05/01/08]
LOL. Fucking moron fanboy
[Posted by: It7300 | Date: 01/07/08]

9. AMD PWNAGE
[Posted by: P. Otellini | Date: 01/07/08]
agreed.
[Posted by: gman | Date: 01/07/08]
Yep, until Kuma, AMD's fastest dual core is slower than Intel's slowest 45 nm Wolfdale. Since the 8200 is coming in at 160ish, this will push AMD's top dog down slightly from where it currently is (167 per AMD's price list).
[Posted by: JumpingJack | Date: 01/08/08]

10. Those CPU power consumption tests are meaningless without whole system ustage as well. Everyone knows motherboards for Intel CPU's use a LOT LOT LOT of power compated to motherboards for AMD CPU's. It's very misleading cheering on the low power without at least noting that.
[Posted by: Pete | Date: 01/07/08]
Typical chipset power consumption is around 10 - 20W. The Athlon X2 is about 80W more than a Wolfdale...
[Posted by: So what | Date: 01/07/08]
Give it up, fucking dumbass
[Posted by: It7300 | Date: 01/07/08]

11. I admit AMD got killed. It would of been more fair if they put a Phenom against the C2Killers. Im still surprised how much damage Intel did when they originally released the C2killers, and when AMD64's were untouchable.

We live in fast changing times.
[Posted by: gman | Date: 01/07/08]
No it wouldn't have been more fair, since we are comparing dual cores here. AMD Phenoms get raped by another type of Core 2 - Core 2 Quad. :P
[Posted by: So what | Date: 01/07/08]

12. If the quad core Yorkfields is basically just 2 wolfdale cores slapped together then why is there a delay with them? The "4 layer" pcb issue is a pretty lame excuse because if that is the case then the wolfdale should have problems also.

[Posted by: kjhsd | Date: 01/07/08]

13. Bob Saget
[Posted by: Bob Saget | Date: 01/07/08]
LMAO!
[Posted by: gamebro | Date: 01/07/08]

14. Good god why won't you fanboy/girls shut up already? Your comments add nothing to the debate and you piss everyone off who immature you come off. Although I am pleased Intel has released another good product I am even more worried about AMD's survival.

If and now more likey when AMD goes bankrupt do any of you folks think another company will buy them out? I too do not want a monopoly in the cpu market!
[Posted by: Lion of Zion | Date: 01/07/08]

15. Very nice, looking forward to playing with one of these. Only thing i would have liked to have seen were overclock results with the 8400. Well written regardless.

16. Excellent job on the compairson.
[Posted by: rlboyce | Date: 01/07/08]

17. "As we found out, the maximum FSB speed for our processor was 540MHz. After that the system would lose stability. So, we can state the new processors have pretty high FSB Wall."

??

What does the fsb limit got to do with the cpu? nothing. This limit is caused by the motherboard. 540mhz is quite nice for a p5e btw! any NB voltage tweaking?
[Posted by: smokey | Date: 01/07/08]

18. AMD's chips will never compete against Conroe or Wolfdale until they
increase the L2 cache size.512kb per core on all their 65nm chips-even
Phenoms-is pathetic.Intel keeps adding cache while AMD keeps sub-
tracting it-no wonder they are losing the cpu wars!
[Posted by: wake up and smell the cache | Date: 01/08/08]
You have to remember with a IMC AMD cpu's get less of a boost from bigger caches than Intel chips do.

And for the dumbass who said get a job LMAO. He probably makes more money than you, just is not an idiot with his money.

Only moron children who live in their parents basements would want AMD to die. Competition is good for the market without it things will slow down. Point and case Intel has already pushed back the release date on these chips because of a lack of competition.

No one is disputing intels chips are better, but if you think AMD dying is a good thing. You clearly don't have a clue.
[Posted by: Bill Gates | Date: 01/08/08]
Bill Gates you talk the talk, but are you going to ante up and donate some of that philanthropy money to help AMD out?

Yeah exactly, I didn't think so.
[Posted by: PCXL-Fan | Date: 01/08/08]
hey, my dad got nothing to do with computer hardware.
[Posted by: Bill Gates\' prodigal son | Date: 04/06/08]

19. Guys, what memory would be better for higher OC of Wolfdale, one on 800MHz or on 1066MHz?
Thanx people:-)
[Posted by: Cokio | Date: 01/08/08]

20. nice review, me likey !
wolfdale is gonna be another nail in amd's coffin...or should i say the stake through amd's heart?
[Posted by: SK | Date: 01/08/08]
more like the second thought i guess, but i don't think AMD is vampirish....

loved the days when AMD was ruling the roost, was good. love these days too, it woke the dozing giant and got the performance to a level that was a distant dream with the presshots
