"in fact, given that there is no difference between 1080i and 1080p source on modern HDTVs, the 1080i output is hardly important"

WHOA!! Hold your horses mister.

When this HD war began everybody, hddvd supporters in the first place didn't said that. How is possible that now the hddvd supporters say something like that? if the BD were in the place of the hddvd right now hddvd lovers would be bashing that comment right?

Selenium: the 1080i/p thing has been discussed at length even outside the context of HD DVD players, and you can check out the AVS forum to learn more about that issue.

Broadcast TV is only 1080i at best, but you still watch it on your 1080p HDTV and like what you see. It's because of the way that LCD and plasma screens decode the signal.

What I don't get is why xbit would want to put the rumor out there that the 360's drive will be $79. A list price of $129 gives retailers the opportunity to discount the thing to $100 or even $79 as Amazon did.

As an owner of a 1080P TV I'll definately buy one for my HTPC at $80. I can rent HD-DVDs from any video store in the area (including both Blockbuster stores) as well as trade discs with friends who bought their HD-DVD players more than a year ago. I may even attach it to an Xbox 360 in the future.
