Just like all the other dual format HD players/burners that are out they burn and read Blu-ray at high speed but will only read HD-DVD at a lower speed (won't burn HD-DVD).

This means Blu-ray is being accepted as a data storage standard while the HD-DVD compatability is there only due to Paramount and Universal as the sole studios holding out on releasing their movies on Blu-ray.
