There are a few problems with the PC World review of the G5. They actually ran the video tests through the Mac OS Classic Software emulator. So you have Premiere running on the old Mac OS running on an emulator over the new OS. If anything, considering how well the G5 performed under those conditions, is very telling of its power.
The real test would have been to compare similar tasks on Final Cut Pro/Express to Premiere. That would give Video Editors a real idea of performance.
A recent test of the new Cinebench partially optimized for G5 puts it dead equal to the dual Opteron and beating the Athlons. Maxon stated that a better optimized version for the G5 will come out 1st QTR 2004 which should show even better performance. So it would seem that Apple's claims are on target thus far.
