1. So...an octo-core on a unified die is not going to be easy even in the 45nm node. Yikes.

I'd settle for the hex core :)If it comes in socket 775 at a not to steep price point. [Posted by: Silver | Date: 02/24/08]
8-core Nehalems should be here in 2009. I can wait 1 more year.

Silver, My current system will be more than adequate for the next year (or two), and I spent less than $600 on it. You got some major issues going on with your complex about the size or your e-penis. Go back to your video games on your Skulltrail platform with your quad graphics cards smart guy. Silver, you should consider this for your next vehicle purchase: http://www.f650pickups.com/page0009d.html We all know how much value you place on bragging rights. 2. I read a PDF file jointly produced by Sun and Intel...the six-core "Dunnington" is a Xeon MP processor for Socket 604, which is an older, existing socket from a while back.
As for Nehalem, it will not be in Socket 775. I have read that there will be two sockets which support Nehalem versions -- with a little over 700 pins (711, I think), and one with 1300+. Both are LGA-style sockets, like Socket 775. [Posted by: anon | Date: 02/24/08]
You are correct. Nehalem must have a new socket because Intel is nixing the front side bus. But that's alright because I have been needing a motherboard upgrade for some time now.
