1. Re: the partition for installing Vista. Did you highlight the partition and click 'advanced options'? That should give you an option to format it, and then you can install Vista from there.

Re: the mouse. Using the BootCamp drivers you can choose to enable right-clicking via touching the trackpad with two fingers and clicking at the same time I believe.

2. Word on the street points to an imminent release of new versions of the Macbook Pro lineup. With this only week(s) away, would the review hold up when people who purchase will be getting a newer model than the one reviewed?

3. Why would you remove mac os x in favor of vista?

4. You gotta be crazy to buy a MacBook Pro to use with Vista. OSX does anything Vista does and better... except for gaming... but then again, how many people use their laptops for gaming?

5. "it was somewhat slower than the ASUS Lamborghini VX2S, which is based on the same platform and CPU, due to the slower HDD, but beat it in 3D games thanks to the faster graphics memory"

What, Crysis doesn't count?

Being TWICE as fast in such a heavy game isn't it more 'future proof' than Apple?

How much did Apply pay to write this?

Crysis is performing better on nVidiaGPUs... Apple got an ATIGPU, so there you got your answer.. ;)

umm read the specs once more boss

both got the 8600GT based cards
the slow but 512M of ASUS makes it win

and i wouldn't call 14.2 fps winning or future-proof.

6. Why would you completely take OS X off and put that cr@p OS on it? Maybe just to run tachs. But really... Why not get a little more subjective and compare what really makes your and my Macbook Pros shine? :)
[Posted by: Integr8d | Date: 02/26/08]
Your Macbooks shine from two things, the dent it makes on your wallet and the looks of it. Not everyone cares about looks though :)
Plus, you can run OSX on PCs so having "OSX" is a moot point. Apple is just (significantly) marking up the price of cheap hardware.

7. I've always admired Apple products: they are one of the first to adopt new technologies, and have absolutely THE best design in the industry. The Asus notebook, as well as the majority of the other out there, look amazingly ugly, tastless and outdated compared to a MacBook.

Of course, there are many things to dislike in Apple, too, but when it comes to mobile PC, that's the thing I would buy (unfortunately, I'm just too badly shaped by MS, having used their OSes for more than 12 years now...).

And please, "How much did Apply pay to write this?" - this is pathetic... I simply can't believe the catastrophic amount of hate and paranoia I see every day in various comment sections... It's all about pieces of metal and plastic, guys, don't get too excited - there are much more important things in life than Crysis being unable to score more than 15 fps on a notebook :]

8. its cool but still its not an apple anymore , nothing beats the pc architecture therefore they are forced to use our PC platforms as their hardware

9. Why would anybody want to get rid of os X and run vista instead ???

10. no two buttons trackpad?
Try putting 2 fingers on the trackpad and click: that is the second button on a MacBook Pro!
[Posted by: perspixe | Date: 02/27/08]

11. I was going to say the same thing : the trackpad recognizes two fingers + click on the button as a right click (you can actually tap with two fingers for this same action when using OS X)
[Posted by: Sideral | Date: 02/28/08]

12. As already noted, the right click works in OS X by taping on the trackpad with two fingers. You can activate this function in the system preferences. It is just so much modern and cool than to have a second button like the pc world does.

As far as i know it also works with Windows if you install the Apple drivers from the bootcamp cd.

Concerning the built-in camera isight, the resolution is 1280 x 1024 not 640x480, see:

13. About the installation of vista:
- First it is simple to install vista only on the MBP. No need to change the HDD, just boot on the macos x DVD that come with the laptop and you can change the partitions map with the disk tool or with the terminal. You can erase everything on the HDD and normally Vista should recognize it (windows XP does it well)
- Second, once windows is installed, insert the mac os x DVD that come with the computer, there are all the needed driver for windows and it install them automatically. it seems there is also a 64bit version on the DVD but I don't try them.

Conclusion: it is elementary to install windows on the MBP but you have to abandon your bad habits of the average windows geek. Everything is on the DVD and install automatically :)

14. you forgot to mention that the mbp also has a fw800 port

15. You really want to hurt yourself by installing Vista on a MacBook....
[Posted by: Paolo | Date: 03/03/08]

16. You neglected to mention that one of the two 1394 Firewire ports is Firewire 800, twice the speed of the usual Firewire 400 port and more than twice the speed of USB 2.0 in real-world operation.

17. You can control the brightness of the screen with the same keys as in os x - if you have installed all bootcamp drivers properly.
what bugs me a bit with bootcamp drivers:
brightness of the screen is switched to full after any energy saving option (like hibernate), instead of beeing put to the level it has been before - you have to manually reset it to its previous state.
sometimes it doesn't recognize that the macbook is connected to the power supply, only a short reconnection of the magsafe plug helps here.
And in the german layout, they have forgotten to add the | pipe symbol and the μ - i had to customize the keyboard layout with a nice and free tool from ms.

18. OK
[Posted by: ADDY | Date: 03/23/08]

19. You, there is an option in the software install of drives for Windows from Apple that allows you to do a right click the same as on OS X. Place and two fingers on the trackpad and click. You'll get the centextual menu or whatever you're trying to do.
[Posted by: rb | Date: 03/24/08]

20. Under windows you can emulate the right click by placing two fingers on the track pad and then clicking the mouse button. You do not need to reach for the ctr key although that works as well
