If only that weren't a typo, I'd upgrade right now. :) [Posted by: Daryl | Date: 03/07/08]
5. If only they would do a ~100 and ~150 quad...then they would have a huge market advantage over AMD.
Say for example... take two crap celerdon DC's and quad em... same for another mid-end E4 series. Quad Core - Check Intel Name - Check Core Name - Check Overclockability - Check American Consumers Recognizing Intel, Core and Quad ? -CHECK. Money. Personaly however, I want a Q4600. 7. I got this moster workstation for my research... it sports a Xeon 5345 quad core processor runs at 2.33 GHz with 4GB memory.
For parallel tasks.. its a dream! [Posted by: I own a quad core | Date: 03/07/08]
You and your shitty Xeon... pff!Watch my Q9450 smoke your ass! [Posted by: kls | Date: 03/07/08]
9. March 8, 08 2AM CST - Clubit.com just lowered their older Q6700 (65nm) to $299.99 (down from $500+). At a 10x multiplier, 1066FSB and 8mb cache, it's looking like a great option to the Q9450, which may have more cache at 12mb, 1333 FSB, and faster clock for clock, but slightly more expensive ($316+), short in supply, and a lower 8x multiplier. For me, may come down to motherboard compatability or air cooling maximums.

March 9 - Clubit.com apparently ended the Q6700 sale. Now to get it at about $300 you must buy it in a combo w/ a video card.

March 10 - 2008 - Clubit's price went back up on the Q6700, even combo.

10. Anyone can confirm on the exact date of launch because if no one can they this story is basically fud!
This was originally from fudizilla! [Posted by: l2 | Date: 03/08/08]
11. As an owner of a 45nm E8400 I would strongly suggest choosing the 45nm part if you're looking to upgrade. They're cooler and, on average, 5 to 15 percent faster than the 65nm parts at the same clock speed.

12. So will the dual core E8x00s start to switch over to C1 steppings as well, or is C1 just for Quad? Thanks for any info.

13. I really want a Q9950, BUT I think might be more of a headache than it's worth. Here's why. First off, it's about 4% quicker than a Q6600, and that's not much. Then the multiplier is locked so that over clocking it doesn't give as much as you should get with 45nm. And another choice is the E8400, but in many cases the Q6600 is more desirable to have for multitasking (tmi to put here). Basically the E8400 and Q6600 are about the same for games. For windows, there are many advantages the E8400 can't win at. But of course there are some things it would. The Q9550 will run a little cooler, BUT if the Q6600 is working great for so many people, it's not that big of a deal to get the Q6600. Especially since the gains on the Q9550 will be small.
When reading many websites, I hear people complain about the multiplier.. OR, they worry they will need special ram that cost more. OR, the motherboards are not quite up the task. PLUS, when they come out, price will be at a premium. Then I figure they will run out of chips. Then the wait begins all over for them to get them back in stock. I admit, I can't see the future, LOL. But I keep thinking something like this is going to happen. For that reason, I will probably go with the Q6600. For me to be happy, I need to know a great motherboard, the correct ram, the proper settings to over clock it etc. If all that were available now, plus it was in stock it would seem more appealing. But we'll see. But I will look it over for a another day or so. [Posted by: ChipZoom | Date: 03/15/08]

15. March 22nd and still not available in Spain.
The price set for Q9450 in Europe is 310 euros (486 US dollars) so ... what is Intel playing at? [Posted by: Frankie | Date: 03/22/08]
