Creative Labs is wrong to say that Daniel_K is stealing from them. What he is doing is OK to do. The open source project ALSA has been supporting Creative Labs sound cards for years for GNU/Linux. Daniel_K should sue Creative Labs based on Creative Labs doing illegal operations of provide no customer service even though Creative Labs is part of Better Business Bureau and FTC services. I wonder what the EU have to say about this issue. Though Daniel_K should have stated "These drivers are unofficial and modded."

What makes a business is its customers. If the business does not care about their customers, the business have to change or go out of business.

I am a GNU/Linux user and I had used Creative Labs cards for a few years. I switched over to a different brand such as Turtle Beach and Audiotrak because they produce better sound quality and provides honest and kinder service.

The sound cards that I used is Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I have been using those cards for four years. Soon I will be upgrading to a new and better sound card, but it will not be from Creative Labs or any manufacture that contains Creative Labs DSP chips.

That letter from Creative to Daniel_K is unbelieveable. It makes it clear that Creative have deliberately reduced the functionality of their products to work on Vista to try and persuade people to upgrade to a new product.

I bought my Soundblaster Audigy only a year before Vista was released, and I naturally assumed that it would be supported. However, when I upgraded I found that my expensive 5.1 surround sound system was restricted to 2.0! But they were still selling the card and badging it as Vista Compatible!!!

Have I missed something? Since when did hardware companies actively decide NOT to provide support and do their customers over? They have dug their own corporate grave and I hope they lose millions by this appalling 'strategic' decision.

Guessing that this is part Creative's strategy to sell more stuff -- to eventually release new products fully functional with Vista -- so that, for Vista, you'll need to upgrade to a new product rather than just upgrading the drivers to your existing Creative card.
