"it did refuse to start up on our Intel Desktop Board D925XCV"
Doesn't the 9800GX2 based cards require nvidia SLI support? After all, it is an Dual SLI kit on a single card...

the review's conclusion was so .. FLAT, as clearly through the review one can see that "3870X2 vs 9800GX2" is doing better than "3870X2+3870 crossfireX VS 9800GX2".

I think ATi's drivers are still to improve and develop, but away from that, it is not about comparing money VS money, it is about comparing product VS product.

A decent comparison would've been as follows:
3870X2 vs 9800GX2
3870X2x2 VS 9800GX2x2

Then price/noise/power should/would be brought to the conclusion combined with efficiency and driver optimizations expectations/announcements.

Anyway, the review is already scoring below 5, guess a lot of ppl thought the same as i did.

Things i liked about this review:
-the table in the conclusion page was nice, would like to see it again and again in coming review.
-very detailed.

What do you mean it doesn't support multi-monitor configurations in SLI mode? That sucks big time! Anyway, great review, dudes. :)

According to Stanford, the Folding@Home GPU2 client is due out pretty soon. For the few hardcore folders around this leave ATI cards as the only option. I like to get more functionality out of a videocard than just games. It better have video acceleration and other features, in my case GPGPU. At this point ATI's only drawback is software. ATI just has to get their drivers in order to make the 3870X2 shine. This problem is perfectly fixable. They're committed to improving so I'll put my money in ATI, for better or for worse.

At this moment though, that GX2 is insane in Crysis. What a stud!

Maybe I'm late in this but ....
As someone mentioned earlier, this article has nothing to add AT ALL, the previous one -the Gainward one- was more than enough, this article charts are almost copy-pasted from it, so why the bother !

Quote from page 6:

"Since this article is devoted not only to Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2, but also to contemporary multi-GPU platforms in general, we have also tested the performance of the following configurations:

ATI Radeon HD 3870 3-way CrossFireX (ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 + ATI Radeon HD 3870)
ATI Radeon HD 3870 4-way CrossFireX (2xATI Radeon HD 3870 X2)
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2 Quad SLI (2xGeForce 9800 GX2: Gainward Bliss 9800 GX2, Zotac 9800 GX2)"

I don't know if it's my eyes or what but I can't find any Quad SLI figure in all charts !

Jesus! Look at Call of Duty 4 benches. Man you got serious problems with your system. You should visit Anand's place and see some ATI graphs... seriously..

With Ati's so badly written drivers and with games written exclusively for NVIDA cards there's no bright future for Ati/Amd.

Why do you get a 9fps on quad crossfire on call of duty 4, and Anandtech gets 90fps?

Sort your test system out.

Proof:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3232&p=3

Even my personal testing is 10 TIMES faster than what you get. 9FPS vs 90FPS, something is not right here!

I always thought this website was reliable but I guess I was wrong.

This review is total bogus. I personally own a crossfire X system with a 3870+3850. With that, i score 19k 3dmark06
as proof:
http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compar eResultId=6652210&compareResultType=14

And X-bit should know better than to use an unoverclocked Core 2 duo E6800. With 2 or 3 GPUz, a 3GHz dual core will obviously be a bottleneck, thats why u don't see much difference between the cards.
