I like my current Ocz Flex DDR3 12800 water-cooled memory 2gb Dual Channel kit...alot. I like the old DDR2 Flex 9200 that I had before upgrading to the Asus Maximus Extreme board I have now. That being said...I need to share with both the public and more over " OCZ "...the feelings that I and I am sure many other high performance overclock oriented people are thinking.
I bought into the idea of directly water-cooled memory as opposed to some aftermarket add-on which several are available two very nice ones which I won't mention...well...then again to help OCZ see " our " view...I will...Aqua Computer.de makes an add-on attachment for water-cooling your memory" any size as it's adjustable ". The second company is koolance...they also have a mentionable add-on memory water cooler.
What makes me wonder is why flex memory is made only in 1GB modules (dual kits), instead of offering like the other series of modules without water jackets like the platinum and titanium series...single 1gb-2gb as well as dual channel modules.
Ocz designers have got some explaining to do...no...actually they are dead wrong~!!! The design of the flex series is good & bad....with the release of this new dual side water jacketed memory modules comes the insistence from the Ocz group that we the " buying consumers " would settle for high speed performance alone and not have the option for larger use of 4gb or even 8gb in our high performance setups.
The ddr2 & ddr3 flex series currently go up to 4gb...due to Ocz choice of not offering that extra " FLEXability " to us the buyers. I have plans on upping my memory from 2gb flex ddr3 to 4 in the least if not dropping the flex & now perhaps Ocz all together in order to get the full 8gb potential that my Asus Max. Extreme is capable of.
Flex II is just some publicity stunt to show that Ocz is upping the standard in speed...while I can appreciate new designs this was both a good idea but poorly thought out and futher more as a customer who has not only bought the flex ddr2 but gone out of my way to get the ddr3 when I changed to extreme mb....this is a disappointment that not only is Ocz not providing the 2gb modules for the flex series but now the new double-sided water jackets take up two slots???
While 2000mhz is fast...and I will buy into the speed( im not as a buyer convinced ), I don't think that i would pay for the flex II series as they are not only not 2gb modules(flex series is not cheap...you'd at least think you should get speed and CAPACITY) but also they take up to much space...I'm a designer...and it really makes me cringe when you have people getting paid loads of money to make designs that are CRAP~!!!
Number one allow for 2gb modules on the flex series...at least for the ddr3 certainly the flex II should in the very least be made and sold in 1gb & 2gb dual channels...anyone spending money for the flex series at it is can certainly afford the added cost for such an obvious gain in performance.
Better yet allow me to submit a revision of the flex II series...free of charge...i will give you guys the detailed drawings in 2007 Solid Works Premium...I will even include some fea analysis ....actually I would want two of the dual channel 4gb kits (2x2gb) that I would revise the flex II series retaining the double-sided jackets as and exchange.
No offense I am just venting here as I am a loyal customer who knows what I like and o.c.rs' too.
