Great article. However, you should have compared to the E2160 (standard and overclocked) so those of us on the cheaper end could decide if it was worth the money to jump up.

Error: "Note that during the tests of Core 2 Duo E7200 processor supporting FSB 266MHz, we had to switch the memory to DDR3-1066 mode with 45-4-4-15 timings". Cas latency of 45 clocks? No thanks. :)

I've been waiting for xbits to publish a review about this nice new toy lately, so I can finally see some decent bar charts :) The review didn't disappoint, neither did the CPU. But the best of all is that the CPU is available here in Germany since a couple of days for app. 110€ - admittedly much expensive than the official Intel price, but still a good starting point.

how about adding power consumption when chip is in overclocked mode for "economical" enthusiasts?

Good test, once again!

looks like a new winner from intel for the budget guys - no replacement for the 8000 from the gaming tests

Page 4:"To perform the test we made our Core 2 Duo E7200 work as a Core 2 Duo E8200, i.e. at a frequency of 2.66GHz with a 1333MHz FSB. It’s easy to realize: the default frequency multiplier of the Core 2 Duo E7200 is 9.5x and can be lowered to 7x. Overclocking the FSB from 266 to 333MHz is not a problem."

Please tell me that's a typo, and that you actually used 8x333 for E7200.

Clearly a winner!!! These chips can even trash the crappy X3s!!

3.9ghz stable for around $150 is pretty kickass.I think i will still hold on to my e6750@3.6ghz stable for now though,as i would'nt see that big of a performance gain switching to wolfdales. What would really be interesting is a quadcore Celeron for around $100!It would'nt beat wolfdale but it would be fun to mess with.

I can't wait for the 5000 series to come out. The extreme low budget 45 nm iteration of the "pentium dual core", hopefully with 1 mb of l2 cache and at the same price level as the 2000 series nowadays. 65$ for e2180 ? YES SIR!!! (and i do hope that the 5000 series will keep the same 200mhz fsb, for compatibility purposes of course)

Temperature of this procesor in summer season is about 100 C ,so u can cook lunch on them.

which of the two processors is much better?
the Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80Ghz or the Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.5Ghz?

How about using the same chipset and memory between the AMD and intel setups? Seems like that would makes more sense if it's a CPU comparison and not a platform comparison.

For the price difference it's probably better to go with E7200 instead of the newer chips that run slightly faster and cost more.

I couldn't notice much improvement from e8200 of e7200.

Thanks to the systems people for testing and releasing this data.

For somebody who is looking at lowest heat for a small HTPC, is the 3Mb vs 6Mb a big deal? I didn't see any numbers for temperature difference between the E7200 and E84xx series. I'd really like to know that.

It is really working fine here. I don't see any urgent need to upgrade to Core2Quad or Corei7. Actually I admit software need optimizations before fully utilization of increasing processing powers. I may stick with it until the end of 2009.
