1. "find its way into compact system cases"

How is that so? Aside from the fact this cooler wasn't even very good in its day, there are far better, smaller coolers than that Zalman.

2. Wow, I am at a loss of words for how much I loved this article!!

I've been dying to find out how my TT Big Typhoon would fare against the quad-cores at 4GHz!!! I also put a 2000 rpm fan on it to cool my Opteron @ 3 GHz, but was unsure of the Quad-cores operating at 200W at that voltage!! My Opteron at 1.6v probably does like 160W.

Yeah, and the fact that Big Typhoon actually performs better than Tuniq Tower. All this time, most of us thought the Tuniq Tower was better--now I see it's because of the VX upgrade (2000rpm fan this time). Plus, there's this great confirmation of my experience with Zalman's "meshed" copper fins that just do not perform as well as heatpipe coolers.

God bless you, Xbitlabs! I rated 10 for this article!

Also loved the benchmark chart with voltage, temperature, and MHz all in one!!!

3. "today’s undefeated performance leader"

it's not undefeated, ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 Premium is sometimes better especially in a case

4. How silly. Why even include the 7500 Zalman, it's a different class of cooler. It would have been much more correct to use the 9500 instead, since it matches the design of the others.
Of course, then you wouldn't have been able to rant all over Zalman for being inferior to the other products.

But, good article and top work at usually.

5. Agree, 7500 shouldn't have been selected as it isn't designed for overclocked quad core ....
