Great article.

This is what IT/software/hardware sites are all about.

Now I know that this card can't work on my 400W PSU.

Darn.

page 11, first graph doesn't really match the explanation.. the graph shows a win for the ati card and it says: "The Radeon HD 4850 X2 is outperformed once again. The reference GeForce GTX 285 and the pre-overclocked version from EVGA do not differ in this test, either. Note also that the resolution of 2560x1600 is still unplayable because the bottom speed of 15fps is far from comfortable."

Except for this, great review

Thanks. This is, indeed, our fault, and will be corrected ASAP.

Great article indeed. I really enjoy Xbitlabs articles but reading stuff like this really makes me want to upgrade my outgunned and outclassed 8800 gtx ultras

Catalyst 9.1 adds significant performance improvements to the HD4870 series as per another article at this very site. (eg. in crysis warhead at 1680/1050 performance improves from ~16fps to around 22fps.

why didn't you use the updated drivers? anyway, nice article. thanks

Because we use 17 tests in our articles, sometimes we just don't have enough time to retest all cards with newly released drivers, but we tend to switch to them ASAP, of course.

This is the most ridiculus and biased graphics card review I have ever seen and yet it can receive some positive feedback. X2 4850 beats the factory overclocked GTX 285 (with zero additional overclocking headroom as already mentioned in the review) in the majority of games, but the reviewer tries to draw attention away from frame rates and talks about noise and power draw. It's silly! Why make the all those game tests then?
Just check yourself:
Call of duty: world at war; "GTX 285 SSC overtakes the dual-chip card from ATI and leaves it behind at 2560x1600, delivering a playable frame rate." This is not correct, because GTX 285 SSC delivers a minimum frame rate of 24 and it can not be considered playable, while X2 4850 min fps is 30. At 1900X1200 resolution the situation is even worse for GTX 285 SSC, min fps are in favor of X2 4850: 48 vs 26, Yes, unbeleivable that they are still picking GTX 285 SSC over X2 4850.

And no mention of the price difference.
GTX 285 SSC:410$ HD 4850 X2:290$
Now that's a huge difference, no wonder why they don't mention the price.

I can write two full pages to describe how this review sucks, but I don't want to waste my time. Apparently the dudes who made this review did not bother to read it once.
By the way I own a 8800GTS 512MB and I have nothing against Nvidia. I just hate biased liars who try to distort facts.
