I have purchased two DS207+ units recently for a client of mine. These units run the same firmware and have the same ability as the newer 209+. I have to say that they are great products that keep evolving with frequent firmware upgrades. The firmware is Linux based so you can compile your own software for the unit and make packages available to the Synology community. Synology offers a 3rd party SDK to make it easier to do this as well.
