Current NAS solutions are still too pricey to consider for widespread home use. The slower ones are cheaper but who wants to write terabytes worth of storage at 10MB/s? The faster NAS units with higher transfer rates are generally more expensive.

They need to bring the cost down. These things do not cost that much to make.

I guess the thicker 2.5" drives won't fit?
Also, too bad that the eSATA port can't be used the other direction, i.e. for connecting to the computer and get a faster access to the data...

http://www.synology.com/s...q_id=130&lang=enu#two Shows that they have validated the WD7500KEVT which is the 750GB Scorpio Blue Drive - These are 12.5mm high as opposed to standard notebook drives which are 9.5mm high, so in answer to your first comment - then it should be OK.
