I would never spend that much $ on a case, myself, though I would pay extra for both form and function. But I can see it being attractive to wealthy geeks who want a unique style and are willing to put up with a few inconveniences. I think you're too hard on such buyers. Remember, not everyone has the same needs and constraints as you.
