Hmm.. Bad drivers, no floating point textures, but comparable performance.
This card was supposed to be on the market almost a year ago. They've had at least that long to work on the drivers with internal chips. They've probably had even longer, like three years, to work on drivers with simulated non-real time chips. I mean, its not like their driver team is making new Savage4 drivers ;)
They promise their next driver release will be better. I find that hard to belive. Well it'll be better, but will it run all the games like Homeworld2? Will it come close to nvidia's drivers?
Sorry, but I will still be telling everybody not to buy this S3 chip, or XGI's, because bad drivers suck. Hardware is only half of the product, good, reliable drivers are even more important. I'd rather get 20fps will unoptimized drivers in a new game than zero because the fancy optimized drivers don't even run it because it is in 1280x960 instead of 1280x1024! That is horrible that it won't work in that resolution. If they can't even do that right, how many other things will they not have done right??
If S3 sorts their drivers out and then makes a DeltaChrome2 I'll consider them for sure, but for now I'll stick with nvidia and ATI which are making good drivers until we have a compeditor to them that makes good drivers.
