I work for a small computer company and we have sold a few of these units. The above mentioned problems are true as well as some of the benefits. A couple other things to keep in mind that we have had problems with. 1) The idea of using the unit solely on a television only works with high definition TVs, otherwise you get some serious problems with the resolution. 2) These units seem prone to overheating when near other heat generating equipment...they cannot have the fans on top covered nor be put on top of hot stereo equipment, this makes them less than idea for some setups. Other than these flaws they seem to be a good enterance into multimedia PCs.

The review mentions that this device has an optical SPDIF out on the front but nothing about one on the backside and I can't see any on the backside.
So if you have a good surround reciver and would like to connect it with optical cable then you can't have the front lid closed. Also it's questionable how good it looks and how convinient it will be to have a cable permanently hanging from the front of the device. Thats a rather stupid design choise.

Would also be nice with a chips that supports dual channel DDR and if they used a somewhat more powerfull GPU like a Radeon 9200 with 64 or 128MB dedicated memory (For you who consider heat issues there is also a Mobile version of Radeon 9200 used in many laptops that generates relativly low amounts of heat).
If they should use IDE connectors to connect external devices then I would prefer 2 Serial ATA connectors instead of 1 Parallel ATA.
Thats mostly adapting for newer technology though and are more my preference.
Switching to another graphics solution could also solve the problem of not being able to use the TV out and DVI to connect a TFT screen at the same time though.

Things Asus should deffently change
* Improve software
* Put SPDIF out on the backside

I don't know why these people never understand, that we
need a smart, slime PC with :
- NO FAN (A FAN is in no way acceptable)!
- Display with min 2 x 40 charakters!
- Small diemensions (deepness of CD-Player size 230 mm.

So sorry, i can only say: Nice try!

Issues/concerns:
- Yes, I agree Audio/Video responses are slow
- Channel numbers not present on screen. You don't know what channel you are on.
- Audio DJ button doesn't seem to be working, it turns the whole OS on. Do you have any suggestions?
- Optical audio connector should should be mounted on rear panel
- WAN feature has good speed.
- My systems seems to be running between 48 to 51 C.
- Combo drive should slide out automatically.

overall system is good for it's purpose. I'm just concerned about the Audio DJ feature not working the way it was meant to.

As one of the first companies in the uk to get hold of the "finished" product, i have come accorss various faults with this machine. These are mainly audio faults.

Firstly the bios lacks the functions that you would expect from a machine like this, options such as "Spread Spectrum"

Also the positioning of the Audio Pass-through is in such a place that you recieve alot of Noise Interferance from the cpu. so if you plug speakers-headphones into the back 3.5mill jack you endup getting very wierd clicking and scratching noises.

This is not the best product in the world as it stands, it has got alot to improve to sort this out.

Hi.

I'd like to say that the looks of this barebone is much more wife friendly than other barebones, and most guys knows enough about computers to operate it. I like it.

Hi,
In the above page you mentioned that, you used Intel P4 2.53GHz CPU....How?
There is nothing called Intel P4 2.53 GHz unless otherwise you mean Intel Celeron D325 or D326 and theses types are not working or the ASUS DigiMatrix mother board not supported for such type of processors (not compatible with ASUS DigiMatrix).
Would you please reply me ASAP I’m facing many problems with using the same machine my e-mail: equdeimat@hotmail.com
Thanks & Regards
