What I love about X-bit labs is its ability to cut through the hype and tell the tech specs in a clear and comprehensive manner.

Anyway, these specs look good, and price looks good, and I can certainly see a Nexus 7 in my future.

I just have 1 question: is there any way to output to HDMI (I know there is only microUSB port....but Galaxy S-es can do it). Other than this minor requirement....it's perfect for me. The only improvement for me would be thinner margins around the screen...but that could affect handling. Can't wait to hold one.

7" is to small for a tablet. Common!
Also the table is not cheap at all. For the same size there are already other tablets with almost half the price..

No SD slot and extra 8GB flash for $50? I'm not interested.

No SD slot is a deal breaker for me too. It's unfortunate that they turn away customers for less than $1 in hardware for the sd slot. It's all about gouging for expensive internal storage.

They're ill advised at Google, they should use TI with A15 chips instead of Tegra 3 and give the device lots of connectivity and storage via microSD card. Thus it will compete everything.

It's not competing with tablets in general, it's competing directly with the Kindle Fire. Which - with an old & limited version of Android, half the RAM, half the CPU cores at 75% Nexus speed, 1/3rd of the GPU cores at 25% Nexus speed, lower screen resolution, and no camera (the Nexus has a front-facing camera for skyping) - sold around 1 million units each week last quarter, and continues to be second only to the iPad in sales.

Yet somehow, magically, the Nexus 7 - approximately twice as powerful as the Kindle Fire, but for the same price - is "DOA", with features that are a "dealbreaker". Riiiiight...
