There's some confusion here guys. You mention retail in the headline and then it turns out this price is for OEM. Should be fixed.

Martian, you actually have to read the text. Problem is, there are no retail versions of Windows 8. You have to buy OEM and accept "for personal use" term.

In fact, this is a gorgeous way to cease piracy in developing markets.

You are actually supposed to use proper wording. Retail as a verb is an unfortunate choice there.

On one hand, the only thing MS can gain is the end of the monopoly of Windows since it roots in their traditionally mild anti-piracy approach, on the other hand as a first reaction people are likely to come up with very ingenious ways of stealing before they start migrating to alternatives.

In general, lately companies developed the misconcept of having the right and the ability to manipulate markets and customers, impose their self-interest on anybody. It looks like the course of events head some kind of revolution since it is not possible to go against the masses on the long run. Certain groups have tried and failed in history.

haha, the only way you expect me to download windows 8 is by pirated copy, no way in hell i will pay 99USD for that ...

And trust me Microsoft them self release a pirated copy to the middle east, so we can help get the trend on and make windows 8 more adopted, if that policy was not started from the Windows XP era, then the whole middle east and Arab countries where using GNU\Linux, and we would learned something for change, but here we all use windows xp/7 cause Microsoft releases a pirated build for us...

As expected, Microsoft dropped full retail versions of its operating systems and therefore end-users will have to get OEM versions for personal use.

What nonsense is this, is MS trying to force us enthusiasts to buy another copy of Win8 every few months when we swap motherboards?

On the contrary, the license is quite relaxed.

Windows Media Center is an Add-on for $!

On top of that you have to have the more expensive Win8 Pro, OEM $139.

This is definitely a "skip" version of Windows OS for me and all clients. As it will be for the enterprise.

I guess it's every other OS that is decent from MS.

...the article forget to mention that all versions of Windows 8 will come with a free one liter container of monitor screen cleaner, so that users can wipe traces left by their dirty fingers while "gesturing"...

You just nailed it! +1 Hats off to you sir.
Usually as an enthusiast I jump on nearly every bandwagon that comes along, This could be the first OS I skip, Might be great for tablets/win 8 phones but for desktop I think it is going to suck!
