Nice looking box, but not completely thought out.
Taking away a PCI slot makes this a non buy even for novice users.

#16865.
hi, ive just received a ASUS T2-P,
it says DLX on a sticker, it has the LED on the front, so its the deluxe version according to the manual.
it came with no exspantion card, so the slot was blank, also it has no IEEE1394 4 pin & 6 pin inside the front flap?
what does this mean.

In reply to Ian's question (5) it would appear that Asus have done their best to confuse their customers here!

From what I have been able to establish it would appear that the PCI card which was supplied for this and other internet reviews (and which contains the firewire, in addition to the wi-fi and fast network connections) is not actually available from Asus yet, and is certainly not included with any of the models they are currently shipping.

Or has anyone actually managed to get hold of one yet?

I bought my T2P in April 04 in the UK and at that time I found it represented good value for the money. I didn't go for the WIFI in the PCI slot and settled for an Nvidia FX4400 AGP8 which may not be brilliant but does allow me to play some of the later games . System is supported by a 2.8G P4 @ 800FSB. I only have 512 DDR 3200 memory in one of the slots and the whole thing powered with Windows XP SP2. I am hooked up to Blueyonder broadband internet and can do most of what I want. OK, I admit the streaming video leaves a bit to be desired but I think this is mostly to do with my internet bandwidth.

I do agree with the review about noise on the radio which I also experience on software driven DVD playback. However, I discovered that when I mute the AUX on the sound controls it cleans up the DVD video sound but is also turning the radio sound off? I have no idea why but it works for me.

I saw one review which criticises the T2P for not having a reset button. I have managed to lock my system a few times but I discovered by holding the power button depressed for about 5 seconds, this forces a complete reboot.

Finally, I keep my updates as hot as possible but was somewhat worried when I saw that ASUS had a BIOS update on their website. I bit the bullet and used the ASUS update utility. I consider I can read a dialogue box ok, but somehow I didn't get things quite right. However, after a reboot and a systems check I was rewarded with confirmation that I now have the latest BIOS installed.

Quickbrew in the UK.

The FAN CONTROL SUCKS! Too fast adaption makes the fan speed go up and down so fast the you just cannot avoid sitting there and hearing it. There was a possibility to set the control parameters manually in an early BIOS, but this was removed, and now you can just set to to 'Auto' or 'full blow'. You would think that ASUS would have fixed this after so long time, and also considering that the terminator v1 was so well implemented, but not.

With that exception, I think it's quite good. Starting very fast, with no problems with integration of the hardware. Got an anti-virus application with it. If they just could take that extra development day to fix the BIOS...

I'd just like to add that I got this case a few days ago. Two of the cons adressed here are not 100% accurate.

1) I thought too that the static I heard was because of the radio antenna. However, it did not stop when I disconnected it. To get rid that static, simply go to the sound properties in the control panel and mute "aux", that seems to do it.

2) My PCI slot is quite free :?

Yeh thats rite. Mute the 'aux' and you instantly lose the buzzing noise when you move windows around.

I have been running Terminator for a few months now, its all good. The clip at the back is annoying when installing PCI or AGP. Also i installed a Sapphire 3d card into AGP and port issues meant i lost keyboard use!!! Solved by resetting bios manually. That's the only problem I had though.

Would be even better if the system didnt partially boot when you just wanted to listen to the radio using teh controls on the front.

POSITIVE points:
1-nice look
2-compact design

NEGATIVE points:
1-it is not so quiet, on the contrary, I found it noisy.
2-few slots available (I have 2 HD, one CD-Rom, one floppy, and there's no place for anything else.
3-expensive

Had my T2 for almost a year now. The only thing i can say is that the bloody fan is driving me wild!!! ITS SOOO LOUD! Apart from that it was problematic when my master DVD-rom died on me. Took me a while to take off the front panel.

Apart from that its been a very reliable little bestie.

I would quite like to know how to reset the BIOS, as while trying to reinstall my operating system it seems to have gone completely bonkers. It won´t even load the BIOS setup.

My T2P is the PC OF MY LIFE
Had installed a video card that supports multiple monitor
Had installed a sound card so I can use it to mix audio (for mobile disco)
Had installed a lightscribe DVD RW
And it didn't let me down!
Aside from the memory stick (MS DUO) slot that is already broken because I constantly use it, everything works so well. Haven't tried fixing the memory slot though, but I believe this can still be fixed.

TWO THUMBS UP ASUS T2P!
