The AM2+/AM3 was. But if the AM3+ doesn't get sidestepped by yet another AMD platform upgrade until absolutely necessary, then it will be worth the investment. I'm happy with my AM3 motherboard- should prove comparable with AM3+ for at least a few years (I bought one of the last processors made for it, a six-core Thuban- good thermal design too).
