I'm inclined to agree, it's similar to what happened with the 3DS, people just have no reason to buy it.

And personally I can't say I really enjoyed the Wii, at least compared to the N64 and Gamecube my Wii has seen way less use than either of the previous gen consoles. Add in that there are practically no games in the launch line up that really caught my eye and that just makes me want to avoid this console, at least for the moment (probably until a Zelda game comes along xD).

Right, just like no one wrote Windows 95 applications because it would run Win 3.11 apps. Why not just write them for the large installed 3.11 base?

That's why even today, all we run at 3.11 apps, right?

The market always makes it right. If no one is making Wii U native games, then people want to write games because there's less competition for native games, which should have greater, and noticeable benefits.

Plus, Nintendo of course will keep making games for their consoles.

The difference in hardware is so profound, there's a real benefit to native games. They'll be done.

Ok backwards compatibility alone won't be the issue, but just look at the 3DS and the NDS. I'm pretty convinced many people didn't get a 3DS at launch just because it's practically the same as the NDS (even though it had new features and better hardware). I think the WiiU will suffer a similar fate, too much similarity with its predecessor resulting in mediocre sales (for a launch at least).

There are many many consoles that flopped in the past, even though there was practically no competition on their "market". Just because a market has little competition isn't enough, the market has to be big and profitable as well. Nintendo will make sure that happens, but a market alone isn't enough attraction for any random developer to invest in a platform. At launch it is the confidence Nintendo can give developers that has to do the trick and after that the results (ie, if they really got a lot of WiiU's sold or not) of Nintendo's promises.

I don't doubt games will be made for the WiiU. I'm just afraid I won't like most of them just like on the Wii, which again won't motivate me to buy a WiiU when I still have an under used Wii sitting here. As long as my favorite games will have Wii versions released I won't buy a WiiU, it's as simple as that (though I doubt Nintendo will release any new Wii games from now on xD).

There were next to no applications for Win3.11, at least for home users. It was all MS-DOS. And ain't that funny that MS-DOS 7.x was a part of Windows versions up to 98 SE, but was also capable of running separately.

DOS finally died a well-deserved death with the advent of Windows ME. One of the reasons why everyone hated ME at the time.

Correction: The WiiU does not play GameCube games. Only Wii.

Another Reason not to get the Wii U. I like having one device to do it all so the Wii U is a NO GO FOR ME. I also can't play F-Zero GX on IT so for that reason I won't buy it.

There is no such thing as 1 device that does it all. This is why we have laptops, tablets, smartphones, home consoles, portable gaming consoles and high-end gaming desktop rigs. Looks like all you do is just troll all new devices that come out. You are never happy with anything that's being introduced and don't understand that different devices are meant to fill different needs.

You don't even play modern games, can't afford a $299 console, so what do you care? Ironically Nintendo makes a game that would benefit you a lot -- Brain Age.

Nah, BrainAge is not for him. He could never take the bitter truth.

Wrong I can take the truth IDOIT. The Truth is that the Wii U takes too much power and vastly underperforms by my high standards. ARM Cortex A15 uses less power and performs similarly if not better.

I'm really not sure. Are you really too stupid to spell the word "idiot"?
Or are you already on such thin ice again that you have to trick the spam filter into blocking you tomorrow instead of today?

Btw, Anandtech say the whole box needs like 30 Watts under medium load. And the Cortex does not play Wii games all that well.

Wow, you are clueless when it comes to technology. Cortex A15 more powerful than the Wii U's CPU+GPU setup?

The Wii U uses about 33W of power in Super Mario Bros. Us and 75W maximum.

How is that a lot of power for a home console? It's not a portable device.

Launch Xbox 360 = 180W
Xbox 360 Slim = 90W

Launch PS3 = 240W
PS3 Slim = 108W

You think a smartphone is as powerful as the Wii U? The GPU is rumored to be based on RV7xx (perhaps RV740 or RV770). It'll be 5+ years before a smartphone has the power of an HD4770/4850 GPU.

And what standards do you have exactly? So far you have said PS4 would be too expensive for $299 and Wii U uses too much power despite using less than current consoles and having a faster GPU and more RAM/VRAM. Are you expecting a GTX690 level of performance for $99 with 10W of power at load for the entire console?
