You clearly have not read the article. The controller allows a gamer to not only to play handheld games on it, but to stream videogames directly from say a desktop PC to their living room's TV/monitor. Imagine your son wanted a handheld console but also an in-home console. With the Shield, you could stream your PC games from your desktop PC located in another room of the house, allowing your son to utilize the full power of your PC (with GTX680, etc.) without having to buy a dedicated gaming console or building a living room HTPC. In other situations where you are using your PC, your son would be gaming on the handheld's screen as the Shield is also its own dedicated handheld console. Thus, this devices bridges the gap between handheld gaming consoles and cloud computing in your home. If you think this is an old idea with a new name, you must have lived on another planet 40 years ago.
