This looks like a typical Microsoft product. M/S has never been an innovator they have always for as long I can remember been a reverse engineering co from the very 1st Windows type of operating system they developed with Steve Jobs in the dim and distant past. Win 3 was and of that Win 95 was from PC-Dos and Norvel plus some of O/S/@ and OS/2 AS was Win NT. Explorer was a copy, Office was a rip-off of Lotus and Word perfect. The list go on. Xbox was a copy/clone of Sony etc. Now they are trying to play the same game again.

So then what are they copying now? You say they're copying, but don't mention what they're copying? Oh was the idea to have a phone that could do email and the internet an apple idea, im sure no one would have thought of internet and email on a phone.

They gained 1% in 2012, (climbed from 1% 2011 to 2% 2012) because of the killing off of Symbian OS and they call that traction?

Clearly lots of MS-haters out there. In a world of instant results, people expect Win 8 and WP to be dominant now, anything less a disappointment. Doesn't work that way.

MS was definitely late to the game, but what they've now produced is undeniably sweet. Even my iPhone-toting girlfriend eyes my Lumia 920. Hard to adapt Win 8 users because there's no start button? Come on. That's ridiculous.

MS no doubt has its work cut out for it - Apple would know about that when MS saved it from oblivion back in the 90's. MS core products finally work well, there is nothing for everyone to pile on and ridicule like Vista, or some other brand-wrecking disaster like Apple Maps. It's far from guaranteed, but I think MS is well-set up for 2 or 3 years from now.

Microsoft has a big perception problem as millions of consumers automatically turn elsewhere when they see Windows. Android is where MS wants to be, and its going to very difficult to get there.

This is true, and its really unfortunate because recently they have tried to design much more intelligent / and cheaper products. They offer an alternative to almost every adobe product for 1/3 the price, but adobe users refuse to even try the microsoft alternative.

I think it has a perception problem with an admittedly large population of users who can't let go of experiences they had 15 years ago with MS. But personally I think younger users, given 2 or 3 years, will be impressed with the W8P. I'm not real thrilled with the Windows name either, but I guess someone's thinking it's never too late. To those paying attention, I think the feeling is that MS has been designing some worthy and different stuff of late.
