I am not for any of this LCD stuff on controllers for ANY next gen console it's distracting, When I am playing a game my focus is on the action happening on screen, Look down for a split second and it's all over most of the time! About the only good use I see for it is a clock so you can say SHIT it's time for bed as it reads 2am and you need to get up for work in 4 hours!
Same as my Logitech keyboard on pc, 99% of the time it just has the useful clock on there to remind me to GET OFF at some point.

I think the idea of the added functionality is to create more immersion. But I stopped playing games sometime around 1997, so I come from theoretical perspective only. But I am quite interested in the PS4 - particularly what multimedia/ services it will have.

I don't mind having another possibility of playing more enjoyable games because of added functionality. LCD screen can be such a feature.

We look back to the past when movies have no audio track. We may think "how can you enjoy a movie with no sound?"

Years later, people may think "how can you enjoy games with dumb (non-interactive) controllers?"
