1. nice concept.. hopefully oneday they will make usb gameing accelerators for those of us with ageing latops that suffer from having crappy intel 830m graphic chips.. ;) i can dream

2. Its a shame the thing needs to have drivers installed in Windows, otherwise it would be a killer addition to any troubleshooting kit if the machine was able to boot just with this.

3. Item uses SIS chipset and does produce fair resolution output, it is limited to 1024/768 and requires a USB 2.0 Cetified port. (no discount usb 2.0 controllers)

It is currently sold by USBGEAR in North America http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-SVGA2.html

5. The thing that makes this thing work is the PLXTechnology NetChip NET2280. It's a PCI bus that connects via USB. PLXT has a demo video showing a PCI video card plugged into the NET2280 development board, and (essentially) this card being used for multimonitor.

The best part - they have code for it in a Linux kernel module (http://www.linux-usb.org/gadget/). It appears to use the USB Mass Storage Class Bulk-Only transport protocol.

So, we just need to figure out how the Linux kernel module implemented (more PCI peripherals?), and then the exact SIS chip on it (if it's implemented the way I think it is), and we've got it.

Manufacturers that I know of:

Telegnosis (original manufacturer)
Tritton (rebrander)
Sitecom (uses Telegnosis board in own case)
USBGEAR (rebrander)

There are a few others. The difference between the Telegnosis and rebranded ones is that the Telegnosis has a heatsink. The Trittons are around $85, the USBGEAR (and some others that I've seen, but can't remember the brand for the life of me) is $90, the Sitecom is GBP69.99 ($128.349 USD), and the Telegnosis is supposedly $80.

6. Never mind, the Telegnosis does NOT have a heatsink, that's just the drawing in the ad...

7. I purchased this device and found that it would not work on my computer. I tried many combinations as listed in the help files listed on the CD, The unit was a AeroCool vision 101 USB 2.0 VGA Adapter.

My computer is a Gateway XL700 with a pentium 4 processor. I have two video cards (one AGP and one PCI). I purchased the VGA adapter because I would like to have a third monitor installed but I do not have any additional free PCI sloots.

When installed and connected via a USB 2.0 hub I could get a screen but I could not drag a program on to the screen - also the screen appeared to have several views of the Axul desktop background.

When installed in a USB 2.0 port on the back of the computer, the other two monitors go black.
