I just got a Brand New Fear 2 game today and am in the begining process of installing it and it says I have to have a steam account and a valve account?
OMG I just want to play games without haveing to do all of this crap, I was reading this stuff and before I go any further can anyone tell me if I'm going to have to pay anything?
I really don't want to install steam or valve on my PC. I just want to play it first, then maybe play online like COD4.
I don't understand all that crap in Terms and Agreement or what ever it's called. _________________ sortkwikle |

I have a binder full of accounts, usernames, and passwords. Every time I turn around I have to start an account somewhere,
I just want to know will I have to pay to play single player and maybe later play online multiplayer? _________________ sortkwikle |

No, you don't have to pay for the Steam account. You already have the game.
Just get steam, make an account and that's it. _________________ I play games, not benchmarks. So all you fanboys/fangirls, just STFU!!

Steam keeps your games updated automatically, and you have access to them digitaly from anywhere. Its actually the best application of its kind.
And no you don't have to pay anything, though you can buy games through it quite convienently. _________________ Asus EEE1000H XP

I liked the giant mechanized walker ( ala mechwarrior ), that was fun - blasting everything to kingdom come.
It is so scary in parts ( elementary school where the lights go out then fizzle back on and the ghost like wraiths and Alma come at you ) that I can only stand to play in short bursts... play for 30 - 40 minutes then have to take a break or else I will have a heart attack!!
So I am halfway through it.. I thought it sort of boring at the very start, too much like a repeat of the first game, but now am starting to enjoy it more - crazy battle scenes , the walker, and more good stuff to come in the last half of the game ( I peeked at a walkthrough ).
I have to get used to loud jarring sounds in the dark, else my heart will stop beating whilst I play this truly scary game! I used to think the Doom series was scary, this takes it to a whole new level!
I hear that "Dead Space" is even scarier!! Have not played it yet, not sure I could take it...

4 Reasons Why Dead Space is the Scariest Game Ever
Dead Space, the new survival horror video game, is a major step forward in the genre, with panic-inducing game mechanics that are as effective as they are subtle. But what makes it so scary? Our gaming expert has some ideas, and he spoke to the EA wizards behind the game to get the details. Here are the four explanations for why you won't want to play Dead Space alone in the dark.

There are two things you have in common with Isaac Clarke, the hero of the new game Dead Space (available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360). Like him, you are not a space marine, which is a problem, considering the number of mutated, corpse-like horrors sprinting down the corridor at you. And second, you are scared. You might even be terrified.
The weapon you're using is not a gun, but more of a futuristic cross between a nailgun and a reciprocating saw. One or two shots will carve off a target's limb, but the hallowed, universal anti-zombie tactic—aim for the brain—is useless against these creatures. Maybe their brain is distributed throughout the body, or perhaps they don't have brains at all. Severing a leg will slow them, but some will keep scrambling across the floor at you. The challenge is to keep your cool and surgically disassemble your targets, even as the sound of pincers squealing on metal means that more of these things are coming.
If invoking terror in the player is the primary goal of any survival horror game—such as the long-running Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises—then Dead Space is a rousing success. It's also an impressive contribution to the sci-fi horror genre in general, better than most Hollywood attempts, with a surprisingly decent storyline and art direction that's as painstaking as it is disturbing. The setting is only part of what makes Dead SpaceEvent Horizon and Supernova have shown, dumping monsters into a spaceship isn't an automatic recipe for effective horror.
What makes Dead Space so unsettling is what's behind the curtain, in the seemingly minor tweaks that developers made to standard horror video-game features, and the new ones that Electronic Arts' Redwood Shores studio introduced for this title. Leaving aside the attempts to mimic big-screen sci-fi horror—through plot, character development, acting, etc.—and sticking to the mechanics of gaming, here is what makes Dead Space the scariest video game yet . . . and how it could have been even scarier.

F.E.A.R is not scary nor is silent hill, resident evil, doom 3, system shock 2 even condemned 1 and 2. Dead space is by far scarier than all of them. |
I dunno if I could play this game in the middle of the day in the middle of a busy mall surrounded by pimply schoolkids!! Now THAT is scary!! _________________ "All the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting." - George Orwell |

I would get Dead Space if it wasn't for the crappy control problems. Did they rectify that or is it still dodgy? _________________ I play games, not benchmarks. So all you fanboys/fangirls, just STFU!!

Actualy you get used with the controls, trust me. Just increase the sensitivity to the mouse in menu and enable (disable?) V-Sync
I find that over-shoulder camera is very original and interesting to play. And yes, I concure, Dead Space is the scariest PC Game ever produced, followed by Doom 3 _________________

Yeah, that was a strange question to ask. I think HT posted a photo of himself way back somewhere. _________________ I play games, not benchmarks. So all you fanboys/fangirls, just STFU!!

I am somewhat ancient. My age is the SquareRoot(1681)! ( for real ).
Don't you find these games uber scary? Playing them alone in the dark late at night, it can give even an old experienced gamer like myself a heart palpitation and lift my buttocks off my chair a few inches every now and again!
You must admit these current horror games are much scarier than the first Wolfenstein 3D game many years ago, or even the first Doom with its blocky characters etc. These things are almost getting "too" realistic!
Doom ( the original ) :

DOOM II was the game that impressed me the most. I remember I had a 486DX2/66Mhz with 4MB of RAM, and I was so pi$$ed because the game wouldn't run from DOS because it didn't have enough memory. I remember you need to put something in config.sys/autoexec.bat in order to free the extended memory. So I did, and I was shoked by the superb graphics of that time. Same thing happened with Quake 1 after I upgraded my PC to a Pentium 166 MMX/S3 Virge 4MB/16 MB RAM. The Quake 1 in 640x480 was a blessing, even if it had like 20-25fps tops!!! Even now, I don't think there is a game that has the same feeling an imact like Quake 1 had. Those dark, creepy areas with scary sound and monsters were the best ever!!!
Lol, that were good times...good times.

As Sauron mentioned, Doom and the other older games were "good for their time", indeed! Groundbreakers! But one must admit they are not 1/10th as "scary" as these latest games... FEAR 3?? probably will happen, not sure though.. Dead Space 2?? Time to stock up on valium!! _________________ "All the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting." - George Orwell |
