VIA Reported December and Year 2003 Sales Results.

VIA Technologies, an aggressive chipset company from Taipei, Taiwan, recently announced its sales results for December as well as for the whole year 2003. Despite a yet another slump in sales, the company seems to stay optimistic about its present performance and future.

The company’s total sales for December 2003 – about $45.36 million – represent a 7% decrease over November’s figure of 48.78 million approximately and a roughly 15% decrease from November 2002.

VIA's fourth quarter revenues totaled $152.2 million, representing a 5.44% decrease over third quarter revenues of $161 million. Whole year 2003 sales revenue reached around $600 million, representing a 19.1% decrease over the 2002 revenue of $741.83 million.

There were some positive trends indicated in late 2002 for VIA Technologies and its sales, however, they did not materialize in 2003. The IC developer’s revenues continued their way downwards, even though execution team was a little bit more aggressive in 2003: they settled the legal dispute with Intel Corporation; delivered a portfolio and a comprehensive roadmap for AMD64 family of microprocessors; announced a dual-channel core-logic for AMD Athlon XP microprocessors and performed some other positive steps aimed to improve the company’s position.

The Taipei, Taiwan-based VIA does not elaborate on its profitability. Sources familiar with the matter said that chipset business – the main business for VIA Technologies – is still profitable for the company. The firm is now aggressively penetrating different markets in an attempt to boost its marker share, one of its major goals is to become the No.2 core-logic supplier for Intel’s Pentium 4 microprocessors by the end of the second quarter 2004.
