VIA Technologies Reported January Sales Results.

VIA Technologies recently reported its sales results for January 2004. The company’s management seems to be so focused on future success that its ongoing operations do not seem to be a primary goal for the firm, whose sales fell 41% compared to the results of the same month last year.

Revenues of VIA Technologies reached $37.3 million, a 19.28% decrease over December’s figure of $46.2 million and a 41% slash compared to $63.155 million in January 2004.

As usually, VIA Technologies does not comment on the reasons of declines in sales. It necessary to note that both VIA and SiS vigorously fight with each other and Intel for larger market share in the chipset business and the main weapon in this war are chipsets’ prices that are constantly getting lower and lower. As a result, revenues of VIA and SiS may decrease substantially, but it does not necessarily mean their market positions are getting seriously weaker.

It is not clear whether VIA really earns money from its core-logic business these days, however, according to the recent claims of VIA’s Ben Boyden, the Taipei, Taiwan-based chipset designer really makes profit selling its chipsets.

VIA is looking forward to deliver the first PCI Express and DDR-II supporting chipsets into the market. In case the firm manages to offer competitive performance and appropriate stability with its PT890 core-logic for Intel Pentium 4 processors as well as K8T890 for AMD Athlon 64 chips, the firm will find itself on a lucrative market of high-end chipsets. If the plans of the company fail to materialize, VIA will be in a very tough position.
