AMD Announces New Athlon XP-M Processors

AMD decided to make changes to the line of its CPUs with low power consumption. From now, all such chips from AMD will be branded as Athlon XP-M processors; however, AMD will aim different processors at different segments of the market by adding a “tag” word to the brand-name. There will be Athlon XP-M Desktop Replacement (DTR), Athlon XP-M Mainstream and Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors.

All processors are priced differently depending on their market segments.

AMD Athlon XP-M Desktop Replacement processors are available in different flavors and designed for use in ordinary desktop personal computers. Thanks to lower power consumption, the new processors will not require a very powerful cooling solution even for the highest-end CPUs.

The processors will be priced as follows:

  • Athlon XP-M DTR 2600+ - $246;
  • Athlon XP-M DTR 2400+ - $146;

  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 2000+ - $92;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1900+ - $84;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1800+ - $77;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1700+ - $62;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1600+ - $57;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1500+ - $52;
  • Athlon XP-M Mainstream 1400+ - $52.

AMD Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors are designed for Thin-and-Light Notebooks. CPUs  with 1800+, 1700+, 1600+, 1500+ and 1400+ model numbers will feature micro-PGA packaging and support PowerNow! technology. This marks the first time AMD mobile processors will be featured in thin-and-light notebooks weighing less than four pounds, providing outstanding portability and extended system battery life. AMD Athlon XP-M Low Voltage processors are priced considerably higher in comparison to other models and cannot boast with really high speed.

  • Athlon XP-M Low Voltage 1800+ - $147;
