Yesterday we told you that some mainboards from ASUS are now made in China, but today Dow Jones Business News reported that even Intel Pentium 4 processors will now carry the same “Made in China” seal. According to the report, Intel began shipping its Pentium 4 chips assembled in its Shanghai plant.
Intel’s assembly plant in Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Trade Zone earlier assembled only flash memory devices and chipsets, but a year ago Intel established a line for CPU assembling as well. Now making and testing the actual microprocessors should be a bit cheaper for Intel and may improve its financial performance a bit.
The corporation said that the products are now shipping to customers worldwide and that the line for CPU assembling started commercial operations as originally scheduled.
In future Intel also plans to establish a semiconductor foundry in China.
