After all adjustments and changes in the AMD CPU roadmap in the course of the last 12 to 18 months we probably will not be surprised by any products AMD may launch now or in future. According to the latest Release Notes for ASUS SK8N BIOS, there will be a new stepping of AMD Opteron processors as well as a chip called Opteron FX.

A reader pointed out this page at asus.com web-site that has claims about revised code to display correct CPU string for Opteron FX CPU in addition to support of the new stepping of AMD Opteron CPUs by the new ASUS SK8N BIOS.

There is absolutely no information about specifications of AMD Opteron FX microprocessors, and we also can tell you nothing about any new steppings of AMD Opteron chips. In general, we may expect from future AMD64 processors higher core-clock or higher performance on existing speeds due to possible minor changes in the design of the core. But we cannot make any statements in regards any real changes in the forthcoming Athlon 64 or Opteron CPUs and can only suggest at this point.

1.
AMD documents available online speak about C revision for quite a while. This revision supports new thermal management features such as clock throttling and S3 on multi-CPU configurations. Besides, it fixes few bugs. You really didn't notice that?
